I would want to sign a 1 year contract only and get back in the mix with more options next year.

:hammer: Totally agree, make the players earn their money, and see if they play at a high level. :starspin

It is a risk; you could get injured or have a bad year. But it sure worked for Ken Hamlin.

I think he was thinking about it from the player's side.

Yup. Definitely a risk with injury or level of play drop but if they can keep their level of play high, a full offseason would allow a lot more time for FA's to shop their talents.

Not sure I agree from the players side of things. With a 95% floor, the total salaries within the league should stay relatively constant, so I don't know that there will be an advantage to hitting it one year over the next. If anything, I could see payrolls being very tight across the league in 2012 as I expect teams to overpay a lot of JAGs this offseason to make the floor.

I think from a player's prospective you need to get as many years as possible. That way you can mail it in for a couple of seasons, but play lights out your contract year and all is forgotten.

If it's a solid player, I'd let the others go first .. supply and demand .. once supply for a position goes down, demand will drive up the price.

Of course if you're an elite free agent, then signing sooner would be smart..
