Decided to post a few power rankings for those who might find them interesting. It appears that most see our Cowboys as a mediocre team. These obviously mean nothing, but it interesting to see how the so called and very appropiately named "prognosticators" rank the teams.

I can understand not being ranked in the Top Ten based on last year's record, but to have NYG ahead of us is just straight up crack smoking status.

We were a 6 and 10 team last year and stunk it up even before Romo went out. I don't agree with the rankings but not much to stand on as far arguing their position.

Actually seems about right, considering dallas has cut 3 of their 5 starting OL and returns a defense that hasn't proved itself worthy in the last year and half. On the other hand the league has a steep divide between the good and bad. A major gap exist between the top 15 teams and bottom 15 teams.....

Just hope this ol Red no's what he is doing......

Based on these rankings, we're on average 7th best in the NFC. Fourteenth overall in the league. That's not mediocre, that's either close to a wildcard or in the playoffs.

Close to a wildcard would be considered mediocre wouldn't it? Just asking!

However are we going to beat that 4th ranked Dream Team? Is it even possible?

Theres a reason that we all love the game. Any given Sunday rings true week in and week out. No team is above that reality. As for the Eagles.....they have some soft spots and you can bet that teams are going to attack them there. They'll have to do a heck of a lot more than just show up to win. We'll beat them at least once.

It pains me to place the Niners so low, because I believe in the Harbaughs. But at the end of the day, if the 49ers, Browns and Bills played tomorrow, I have no clue who would win. Do you guys?
:laugh2:

We're undefeated right now. So in my book that means we are tied for 1st in power rankings. Now lets go kick some ***.

I did a bit of hunting around on the ESPN version to see how their rankings reflected the Super Bowl participants for any given year based on these week 1 ranks. Winner of that season's Super Bowl listed first.

2002
Tampa Bay 8th, Oakland 7th

2003
New England 6th, Carolina 22nd

2004
New England 1st, Philly 2nd

2005
Pittsburgh 5th, Seattle 15th

2006
Indianapolis 4th, Chicago 13th

2007
NYG 18th, New England 1st

2008
Pittsburgh 6th, Arizona 21st

2009
New Orleans 18th, Indianapolis 6th

2010
Green Bay 3rd (dropped to 15th in week 7, 12th in week 15)

Pittsburgh 18th.

---------------------------

So take that as you will. Looks like a shotgun blast of size 8 pellets from 50 meters with respect to precision.

The writer of that article hooked me up with his drug dealer's number in case anyone else wants it.

I don’t think power rankings are trying to predict the future. More like they giving a current position of the teams. It’s suppose to change, hence the weekly changes.

Disappointing but not mediocre. The season hasn't started and they rank us as the 7th best team in the NFC. That's really not bad.

14th is pretty good for a team coming off a 6-10 season, who still hasn't proven their defense is even average.

I agree. I think most of them still recognize the talent on the team but question whether they can put it all together mentally.
