On a NYG website they were discussing the game and they came to the same conclusion.

I think you're mistaken about Romo because the offense ran through him. It was always on his shoulders to carry the team. Since Prescott has been the starter the offense runs through the OL and running game for success.

With Romo you felt Dallas was never out of a game. I don't get that feeling with Prescott.

A lot of you guys are misunderstanding what I said about Romo and Dak. First, my judgement is not based on 1 game. That would be ridiculous. Your conclusion that I saw Romo play once is as silly as that conclusion. Rather, the game reminded me of how Romo played throughout his career. It's easy to forget about a guy after he hasn't played for a long time. Fans tend to romanticize the guy that is no longer on the team they was they think the backup QB should start because they don't like what the starter is doing. Romo was a good QB, but I think when all is said and done, Dak will be considered better. Maybe Dak will fall on his face the next 5 years and I will be proven wrong. It's possible. But I just do not think so.

Romo had what 23 or 24 comeback victories between 2006 - 2015 leading the nfl. Lead ALL quarterbacks in the 4th quarter and overtime passer rating during that span. His cowboys defense from 2010 on gave up more 30+ games besides two other teams. Let's not forget quarterbacks such as Brady, Rivers and etc had more game ending plays then Romo from 2011 on. Romo also had overall good postseason stats.

Easy to remember game ending picks when you carry trash level defenses 90% of your career. In reality he was never the game ending killer the media makes him out to be. Dude led the nfl in comeback victories during his career

And let's not start into what I consider a bs stat anyways. Many quarterbacks don't get as many chances cause their team is always up. Like hell Cousins almost has as many game winning drives as Rodgers.

Great post. Anyone with a brain understands this and can see that Tony Romo is/was a better quarterback than Dak Prescott. It's not even close. Ironically, the supposed iron man, Prescott has probably missed more games through injury (even with a once in a generation offensive line in his first year and generally a very good o-line compared with other offenses in the league) at this point in his career than brittle ole Romo.
But I guess it's the intangibles...

I had a chance to catch this game the other night on the NFL Network. Memories.

First, the Cowboys had some good players on Defense. In addition to Demarcus Ware they also had Jason Hatcher and Jay Ratliff playing DT. Sean Lee was the ILB with Bradie James and Victor Butler. Anthony Spencer was playing opposite Ware. Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick were the CBs. Barry Church was one of the safeties.

Good rookie class. Tyron Smith was drafted in the first round. Interesting note. He played RT in his rookie year and Doug Free played left tackle.

A couple of things stuck out to me watching the game. First, Dak is as good as if not better than Romo. Romo may be a bit better with the mental game.

The other thing is, The Clapper was just a bad HC. During the game the announcers were talking about how Garrett had called a time out as his own team was kicking a FG to win the game the previous week against the Cardinals. Dallas had to rekick and they missed the FG which sent the game to overtime where Dallas lost. That was the brilliance of Garrett.

The Cowboys lost 37-34 to the Giants. Eli made some unbelievable throws in desperation that worked out for the Giants but despite all the talent on defense they could not stop the Giants offense. It looked to me like the defense was a confused mess. Receivers were left uncovered all night including on a 42 yard TD to Mario Manningham when no one covered him. Bad loss for Dallas.

Romo recently watched the 2009 Giants playoff game and he said he cringed watching it because even though he had two TD's dropped by Crayton and Fasano he was so far removed from being the QB he was when he retired. He saw things in that game that were so obvious to him now that he just didn't know early in his career. You are right about his mental game being better than Dak but he's simply a flat out better QB than Dak. Not necessarily a better runner but a more polished and accurate QB.

Dak's good enough with the right pieces around him as was Tony but a lot of things have to go right for this organization to even advance far into the playoffs.

Yes, watching that game brought back memories of all the games I watched Romo play, not having seen him play a game in 6 years. Dak's play is fresher in my mind. Look, I like Tony Romo so when I say I think Dak is as good as or better, it is not a slight on Tony. They are both good QBs. I think Dak has better physical tools and Romo was a bitter better seeing the field in front of him. But overall, when Dak hangs them up I think he will be considered the better of the 2 QBs, by me and others.

Agreed. Also add "they" are Jerry Jones. He kept Garrett, instead of getting a real coach that would want control. I think a talented coach with roster decision power would have won a superbowl with those teams.
Romo's skill set deserved a great coaching mind that could elevate his game.

Romo missed 3 games in 2008 and 10 in 2010 dues to injury. Dak has missed 12 games in his career so far.

Romo lost his starting job to Dak because of injuries.

I was always a big Romo fan. Thought he was as cerebral as any QB in the league and just got better every single year at something without really taking a step back anywhere else.

I'm also a big Dak fan - very different game than Romo but very good also. Through the first 5-6 weeks of 2021, I thought Dak had finally gotten to Romo's level as a passer, which IMO meant that he was probably about surpass Romo (given it was his 6th year as a pro, putting him ahead of schedule). But then the rest of the season happened, and Dak wasn't bad at all, but he just didn't have the same magic. I dunno if it was scheme or the OL falling apart or his calf or what, but its made me delay the annointing oil until 2022.

Don't get me wrong - I still think Dak is a good QB and we could do worse, but I do feel that his ceiling is a little lower than Romo's right now. I'm hopeful he shows that's wrong!

ugh, the "lost the ball in the lights" game, made worst by Collinsworth accusing Romo of "overthrowing" him.

I always said that the difference between Romo and Manning's careers was in their WRs.

Romo had

• Crayton dropped pass
• Crayton stopped route
• Laurent Robinson not crossing defenders faces on slant routes
• Martellus Bennett
• Dez finger out of bounds
• Dez CAUGHT it*

whereas Manning had:

• David Tyree CATCHES it
• Mario Manningham down the sideline
• Victor Cruz drag route
• Mario Manningham AGAIN down the sideline

Obviously more complicated than that, but so frustrating

Seems like Manning and his receivers always made the plays and Romo and his receivers couldn't.

Manning just threw up prayers like Farve used to do. He just got lucky. That pass rush from the Giants was at their best when they got to the playoffs. You give Romo a defense that could pass rush like those guys and he wins two SB's just like Manning.
