From The Big Lead.....

Further proving that the NFL Draft is far from an exact science, here’s a brief snapshot of the carnage – already! – from the 1st round of the 2012 NFL Draft. These players are only in their 3rd year, so it’s probably too early to label many of these guys busts.

Well, except Brandon Weeden.

Why the 2012 draft and why now? Two top 10 picks are in the news this week, and not in a good way.

1. Indianapolis – Andrew Luck. Star, two playoff appearances. Franchise QB.
2. Washington – Robert Griffin III. Great rookie year. Can’t stay healthy. New coach whose system is better suited his backup, Kirk Cousins. Eventually, could be trade bait.
3. Cleveland – Trent Richardson. Already been traded. Three 100-yard games as a rookie. None since.
4. Minnesota – Matt Kalil. Stud OT. Cornerstone. Pro Bowler.
5. Jacksonville – Justin Blackmon. Good rookie year (865 yards). Keeps failing drug tests. Jags didn’t do their homework on him.
6. Dallas – Morris Claiborne. Traded up to get him, and he’s struggled. Demoted this week. Didn’t take it well.
7. Tampa Bay – Mark Barron. Solid player. Starter.
8. Miami – Ryan Tannehill. The Dolphins are considering benching him. If Philbin doesn’t survive this season, the new coach will want a new QB.
9. Carolina – Luke Kuechly. If re-drafting, he probably goes No. 3, maybe No. 2. It’s very early, but has the makings of a Hall of Fame MLB.
10. Buffalo – Stephon Gilmore. Best corner in Buffalo has struggled with a groin injury this year.
11. Kansas City – Dontari Poe. Disruptive interior lineman started every game as a rookie, 4.5 sacks last year, definite keeper.
12. Philadelphia – Fletcher Cox. Very good first two seasons (8.5 sacks) and a force inside for Philadelphia.
13. Arizona – Michael Floyd. Looks like a breakout star this year, and is in the process of taking the baton from Larry Fitzgerald.
14. St. Louis – Michael Brockers. Poe, Cox and Brockers were all defensive tackle home runs.

15. Seattle – Bruce Irvin. Three 2-sack games as a rookie, and looked like a great find rather than a reach. Has done very little since (two sacks in 14 games since; currently injured).
16. New York Jets – Quinton Coples. Good rookie year (5.5 sacks), ditto Year 2 (4.5 sacks), and a good start to year three as an edge rusher.
17. Cincinnati – Dre Kirkpatrick. At some point, people are going to write about the struggles of SEC defensive backs. Kirkpatrick played more Sunday than usual; also got two personal foul penalties.
18. San Diego – Melvin Ingram. Terror at SC has been anything but in SD. Weak rookie year, and he has been hurt ever since (six games played last two seasons; out next six weeks).
19. Chicago – Shea McClellin. Has been injury prone (concussion, MCL, hamstring, hand). Best known for injuring Aaron Rodgers last season.
20. Tennessee – Kendall Wright. Lots of potential, good numbers (94 catches, 1,079 yards), will turn into a star when they get a QB.
21. New England – Chandler Jones. Superior athlete. Very good player, has Pro Bowl future.
22. Cleveland – Brandon Weeden. Bust in Cleveland, now the backup in Dallas.
23. Detroit – Riley Reiff. Played eight games as a rookie, started last year, and is firmly the team’s left tackle for the foreseeable future.
24. Pittsburgh – David DeCastro. Stanford hoss on the OL injured his ACL in the preseason of his rookie year, but has been more than solid since.
25. New England – Dont’a Hightower. Three year starter at linebacker.
26. Houston – Whitney Mercilus. Six sacks as a rookie, seven last year.
27. Cincinnati – Kevin Zeitler. Two-year starter at guard has been nursing a calf injury in 2014.
28. Green Bay – Nick Perry. Linebacker suffered a wrist injury as a rookie, limiting him to just six games, but he played 11 games last year, and has had his moments.
29. Minnesota – Harrison Smith. Looks like a 10-year starter. Playmaker.
30. San Francisco – AJ Jenkins. Bust. Already traded to KC. Can’t get on the field there, either.
31. Tampa Bay – Doug Martin. Brilliant rookie year. Injured in Year 2. Hurt again this year.
32. New York Giants – David Wilson. Already out of football due to a dangerous neck injury.

I think you'd have to say Claiborne, Richardson and Blackmon are the biggest busts from this draft. Blackmon may be worst because he isn't even on the field, although I think many Cowboys fans wish Claiborne wasn't on the field, so I'm not sure if him playing is actually an advantage.

If it was just Mo being taken 6 that would be one thing as pretty much every draft magazine and "expert" had him as a top 10 pick and top defensive player in the draft. Giving up a second is what the killer is.

Hurts to see all of those DL doing well, knowing we could've had our pick of them.

Should have stayed put with Blockers and Wagner. Orlando would have taken over the starting corner back position.

Its funny how people hype up how well the Seahawks draft but they really screw up 1st rounders. Some years not even having one.

Other than Percy Harvin I don't think they've traded away any picks unless it was on draft day in moving up or back. Am I missing one?

They haven't had a 1st rounder in 2007, 2013 and 2014. Which its hard to fault them for because in that same span....the only players that they have drafted is Okung and Earl Thomas and some may say Okung hasn't lived up to his draft status. Everyone else is either decent or off the team. Thank goodness for that 2010 draft though. I think you can live with Okung knowing you got Earl Thomas a few spots later.

But usually when you hit on that rate in the 1st round it comes back to bite you at some point. But to their credit, it hasn't YET.

this is the pick that I wish we would have made

Easy to go back and wish but at the time we were in a 3-4 and a year after drafting carter in the 2nd and haven't seen him do anything really yet. Carter and Lee at the time was our future at ILB in the 3-4. So Kuechly was seen as a non need.

Claiborne was seen as some that year as a can't miss and o e of the best cover corners in the draft and all of college football.

Now I was against the trade up for anyone. I wanted Fletcher Cox that year more than anyone. But our original pick was at 14 and Cox was drafted before that.

If we could go back knowing what we know now I wash wouldn't trade and stay at 14 and take Bricker. Then our 2nd round pick would have been Wagner.

I wanted Brockers that year, would have been a great 3-4 end IMO. Although he's proven to be a pretty good player for them in a 4 man front as well.

I remember very well thinking we should trade down in the 1st round. I woke up that morning thinking we wouldn't be picking until late. Then we traded and I was shocked. There were soooooo many people in the chat room that were totally excited we got Mo. Now I look at that list of 1st round picks and I'm think that if we traded down our 1st rounder probably would be a disappointing player but we would have at least had a 3rd or possibly a 2nd rounder that might have worked out.

I didn't want brokers that uear because I didn't think he would be any good in a 3-4. I think he is a true 43 DT which would be perfect for is now next to Melton.

Actually, that was the problem. I don't think he would've been a great 3-4 end... Just didn't anchor very well and got turned out on double teams.

But I mean... HellI wanted Melvin Ingram so what do I know?
