Overview

Welcome to the "Mel Kiper Jr. Invitational" Mock Draft. Hostile and Risen Star are the commissioners of this mock. Let's make it the best any of us have ever participated in. With that goal in mind, let's get you up to date on the particulars and the rules. These rules were chosen to try and combat how most mocks get screwed up.

The draft begins Monday, February 20, 2012, at 8:00 AM Eastern Time and will conclude for the day at 11pm EST. It will continue with those hours each day for the remainder of the draft. In the 1st round, teams have 60 minutes on the clock to make their pick. The 2nd round will be 45 minutes. Rounds 3 and 4 will be 30 minutes.

The teams were selected by a blind lottery. No one got to choose their team.

The Mel Kiper Jr. Invitational is a four round mock draft.

1. Drafts tend to bog down because time limits aren't enforced. Here's what we are going to do to try and keep this draft moving. We are going to ask each team to give us a list of at least 3 picks they are considering in order of preference. We are going to ask for these picks two teams ahead of their time to pick. Let's use some players from last year as an example.

You are team 5. When team 3 is on the clock we ask that you send in at least a three player list if there's even a chance of you not being online when you're on the clock. It would look something like this....

1. Jonathan Martin
2. David DeCastro
3. Melvin Ingram

We will make your pick from this list unless you specify not to. If after your 60 minutes (In the first round...times in other rounds are shorter and noted in this thread) are up, and you haven't been online to see that and make your pick, we will give you your highest option. One of the three players will always be there because only two could have gone ahead of you. This will keep the draft moving.

If a team does not contact us and their time has run out, the pick will be made by either commissioner. If this were to occur, we will not purposely give you a bad pick. Any teams with absent GMs in the first round will be run by a group vote when they are on the clock, unless a replacement GM is willing to take over. Or the absent GM shows up to finish the mock.

NOTE: Many GM's leave lists to pick from as soon as they are on the clock. This is preferred if you're not going to be around. No reason to hold up the draft for the full duration of your clock if you won't be available anyway. If you want the full time allotted before the pick is made from your list, be sure to specify to the commissioner.

Also, if a GM hasn't been around and it looks like they are not going to participate, we will not wait the entire time each time that team is on the clock. The pick will be made by a consensus.

HINT: Check the draft status when you first get up and see if the time affects you. If you don't have PC access at work and you think the draft may catch up to you, make sure we know that and go ahead and make your selections known to us via PM.

One way or the other the mock draft will move on. We prefer it be with less activity by us and more by you.

2. No trading veteran players. These trades just get silly. You can trade picks in this year's draft, and in the 2013 draft. Be sure to check your teams allotment of picks in the team by team picks chart below. You can PM that team's GM to talk trade by simply clicking on the team name.

3. No asking other people what you should do. This is your chance to be a GM. Do your homework. Know your team's needs. Know the players in the draft. We strongly suggest no "I can't believe so and so is still on the board" type talk during the draft. This is a fun competition. We'll have plenty of time to talk about it after the draft and grading takes place.

4. We want to keep this mock confined to one thread and we would like to keep the thread clean. To that end we are going to sticky it so it stays up top. We ask that you notify us of your picks via PM rather than posting them in the thread. We will edit the draft board for all to see. We would like this thread to be one post for the rules, draft order and selections, team by team draft choice chart and then the pick announcements there after.

Again, all picks are sent to a commissioner. If a trade is involved, both GMs are to contact the same commissioner.

If posts are being added to this thread they will be deleted. Keep the spirit of the draft intact.

5. If you are interested in trading out of your pick, post a new thread to that end before you are on the clock. If you know a particular team you want to target in a trade, send them a private message.

This thread will be constantly updated as trades occur and picks are made.

Grading

Okay, when the hard part is over and the picks are in, we can all relax a little. But I always found the ending of a mock draft to be a little lacking. We all go thru this process of trying to make our teams better but no clear cut ending results. Who were the winners? The losers? Who made the biggest steal? Biggest reach?

Now of course we won't know who really got the most bang for their buck until these players are 3 or 4 years into their pro careers but for entertainment sake and for bragging rights, we'd like to have one consensus final report card.

To do this we are asking each GM to visit the "Team by Team Selections" thread that will be posted separate from this thread and take a few minutes to grade each class.

The rating scale will not be a letter grade but on a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being excellent, 5 being average and 1 being absolutely terrible.

We ask everybody to keep in mind the ammunition each GM had to work with when they began this process. We're not looking to crown the GM who was lucky enough to acquire two first round picks as the winner. We want to establish who got the most value with what they had to work with. Also remember to factor in any added or lost 2013 draft picks, as they will be noted with each GM's class. Any added or lost 2012 picks during this mock will also be noted within the "Remaining Selections" and "Original Selections".

Leave the bias aside, forget the usernames and give your honest evaluation of each class. Assign a number grade to each team and send your list to Hostile or Risen Star.

And in a further effort to prevent bias from tainting the grading, we ask that you do not grade your own team. Let your peers tell you how you did.

Also add who you felt was the biggest steal in the first four rounds and who was the biggest reach.

Once we receive grades from all the GM's, we will average them out and post the results in a "Final Report Card" and crown a Champion.

I would appreciate if each GM takes the 10 minutes to do this. It'll be a fitting end to what we hope will be a good mock draft overall.

**** All votes will remain anonymous ****

Now that the picks are finalized and posted, the trading period has started. When a trade occurs, we ask that both GM's PM the same commissioner and give him the details of the trade, including round and overall selection number in the draft which is posted within this thread. Only when a commissioner has both responses and they match, will the trade be finalized and updated on this thread. We do it this way to prevent miscommunication on what was involved in the trade.

Again, please keep this thread clean of any responses. If you have any questions, PM Hostile or Risen Star or start a separate thread.

Barring a trade, at 8AM EST on Monday, February 20th, the Indianapolis Colts are on the clock.
