Just wondering what folks thoughts are in regards to the draft this year vs. next years draft. I know it all depends on who comes out and who stays, but do folks think next years draft is a little deeper in overall talent?
I ask because I feel this is year 2 of a 3 year plan Garrett has for this team. Last year we saw the start of the OL overhaul. This year it looks to be secondary and LB corps.
We have a couple of players (Jones/Jenkins/Spencer) that will be FA decisions, so I'm wondering if we use this draft to try and 1) improve the team (obvious), but 2) protect those positions, so we are not put in a bind come next off-season.
So let's say we use this draft to take the BPA at a position of need and/or cover those FA slots; using some sort of combination below.
1 - Kirkpatrick/Gilmore or Barron
2- Boise State LB/Ronell Lewis/Bruce Irvin/Doug Martin
3- LaMichael James/Ryan Broyles
Then next year we finish off the rebuild of the best DL/OL (if Livings/Beaudeau/Center position) doesn't pan out or safety if we don't take Barron.
Just throwing some thoughts out there.
