While I don't put much stock in the predictions of ancient savages. I think I'll do my Christmas shopping on the 24th that year. I mean. if they are right...why waste the money?

Saw it last night.

It was about an hour too long. All of the disaster scenes were way over the top. I lost count at how many narrow escapes there were.

It was ok...nothing special. I guess if you had plans to see it, go ahead and check it out. Otherwise, I'd wait for the DVD.

A prediction by ancient savages? Everyone knows that aliens of vast intelligence told the Mayans when the world would end. Or to put it better, when these same aliens would return to destroy the Earth.

Well, if aliens were involved. Then all bets are off.

I have not seen the movie but want to see it. As for the world ending who knows when that may happen. I hope it doesn't because that is a Friday and with post season right around the corner I would hate to miss the game.

I'm not a huge fan of John Cusack either, so that didn't help. I know some people love him, but he doesn't do it for me.

he was good in Grosse Point Blank

he's more of a comedy type of actor, where he can be kind of snarky and cynical

I thought he was decent in Runaway Jury and Identity.

The 2012 thing is a myth. The classic Mayan calendar does not end on that date, it just begins a new period. There are no prophetic words, just an indication that the end of the 13th period may have some vague significance.

It also has no real meaning to present day Mayans (and by the way Mayans are still around and well, they're not "ancient savages"). I like this quote from Mayan archaeologist Jose Huchm, "If I went to some Mayan-speaking communities and asked people what is going to happen in 2012, they wouldn't have any idea. That the world is going to end? They wouldn't believe you. We have real concerns these days, like rain".

I would also contend that calling them "ancient savages" demeans a lot of the fantastic accomplishments of their past.

The world won't end December 24, 2012.

It will end December 31, 2009.

Just look at your calendar... there aren't anymore days after December 31, 2009. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. Why wouldn't the calendar makers not add in dates beyond December 31st? I think they know something...

Sad part is there are gullible people out there who will listen and follow these prophets of doom cult leaders and con artist and will be hurt by these people. I still want to see the movie because at least looking at the previews it looks like an action packed movie. Kind of like the Nicolas Cage movie Knowing

You Win!

The movie was ok. The distaster scenes were pretty impressive looking, even if they were over the top with a magic limo and winnebago. But outside of that, the characters were pretty bad, and there were far too many of them. If there were half as many characters and 40 less minutes, it may have been better.

Oh, I'm sorry. It must have the ritual murders, the playing kick ball with severed human heads and the King slicing his ***** open once a year so the high priest could read the blood droppings that threw me. I apologize to pre industrial star gazing, rock carving peoples every where.
