Promise kept.

When Chevrolet unveiled the 2014 Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show in January, it said its 6.2-liter V8 would put out at least 450 hp and 450 pound-feet of torque when it hits showrooms later this year. Turns out it’s an overachiever.

Chevy announced today that the official output for the $51,995 coupe is 455 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque in standard guise. That’s up from 430 hp and 424 in the current model, making the seventh generation car the most powerful base Corvette ever offered. But it gets better.

When fitted with an optional sports exhaust option those numbers rise to 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, which should be good for a 0-60 mph sprint of under four seconds.

Very very sweet car, have been following it for quite some time. Definitely on my must have list. I absolutely love the looks of this baby and I dont care that it does not have round tail lights. She's beautiful...

I can't believe it is only 52k, seems like it should go for at least 10k more.

From where I sit the Corvette is the best car for the price hands down. Nothing gives you as much bang for the buck!

New Stingray looks so sweet...hmmm, time to trade my C5 Z06?

Ah yes...first world problems. ;)

I think I still like the C6's better in looks...maybe the C7 will grow on me.

First sports car I purchased was a 1990 ZR-1.

My mom still has a 74 Stingray in her garage with only 39k miles on it. It is in almost perfect condition and white. She never, ever let me drive it, not even around the block.

Well, when I was 17(in 1988), my parents went on vacation in Mexico somewhere. Needless to say, I found the car keys after three days of playing MacGyver. Within 30 minutes, I backed into another car in a parking lot.

I was in serious trouble.....I eventually came clean to dad, he just laughed and said "I knew you would give it a shot". Well, one morning we told mom we were taking it to burn off the old gas because it wasn't good to just sit in the garage :)

We hit up the bodyshop and had it repaired rather quickly, mom was never the wiser ;)

Congrats to those of you who have moms and dads with Corvettes, very cool. Maybe I need to look into selling my 96 GS, but Oh my daughter starts college in Sept...guess I'll wait awhile.

Wow what a beast, and love the headlights. Nothing beats pop-up headlights though.

They're surprisingly inexpensive to fix too. Had to replace my '01 C5's painted targa top panel = only $1300. Sway bar needed replacing = $400, etc.

You're an early 20's college chick and you can afford that?

My mom passed a few years ago and left me some dough (ok a lot), plus while interns don't get paid that much I'm not a party animal and am fairly thrifty (or miserly) and don't really go nuts spending on anything except the 'Vette. Combo of circumstance and being a cheapskate that I can afford my silver baby.

Sorry for your loss Kristen! My wife has always wanted a 'Vette....maybe I'll have to save up enough to buy her one someday :D

Hey that's ok.

If you are studly enough to get your wife one, there's a guy in here whose wife drives a Camaro and she has a sticker on the driver's side mirror that says, "Objects in mirror are losing to a girl!" haha. I'm sure your wife would love to accessorize the 'Vette with stuff like that :p:.

Sorry about your mom keep most of that dough in the bank and never touch it and let it collect interest. You sound like a buddy of mine from way back when I lived in Texas. He had a Top Ramen/generic mac and cheese diet all to afford keeping a Mercedes he spent his entire life savings on.

He lived in a rundown one room apartment that was so small he could stand in the center of the room, reach over and turn on his 13 inch TV with one hand and open his refrigerator with the other without having to take a step.

His entire wardrobe consisted of a pair of jeans, some beat up sneakers and a couple of shirts he purchased at a thrift store all for a car. He figured if worse ever came to worse he could always live in it.

Love that car and the color especially. I gave my son a 99FRC with a Z06 motor in it. He has done fine with it.
