All year?

If could have outplayed Free when he got healthy he would have been out there.

Coaches can't know that from practice. He would have needed to show it during the preseason or Free would have to have been bad enough to need a change. With a change to the OL scheme to help Free, he was good-enough.

They could have done what they did in 2012 and rotate them. He's not injured this year so I guess he will start?

Yeah, coaches probably can't tell if a guy is looking good or not during practice.

It's difficult to know. Jerry has been resistant to having the higher paid guy on the bench.

Free is probably gone after this year either way(he has an 11m cap number). I would rather see if Parnell can beat him out in a true camp competition. If Free beats him out then it's clear that they need to sign a FA or Draft a RT next year.

It's possible Martin swings out to RT, but I think they like him inside.

A lot of love for Parnell when he's done absolutely nothing and is on the roster bubble.

It really goes to show how offense heavy we are. 4 less players on offense, and the offense accounts for 10 million more than the defense... and this is before re-signing Bryant, Smith, and potentially Murray....

He started a game at LT and played 4/5ths of another one there and played reasonably well. He then alternated series at RT for 4 games and again played reasonably well. That's more than all rookies and many other players on the roster have done.

Why didn't they know Austin was better than Roy Williams from practice?

I guess the same reason why they didn't know Austin was better than Crayton. Or did Crayton's monster $1.5M salary ensure him the other starting WR job?

If not based on practice, what did they base their decision to plug in Parnell last year towards the end of the season?

If you're trying to say that Free's salary - which was guaranteed whether or not he was on the team after the restructure - is what kept Parnell out then I think you're reaching.

They clearly showed their intention to replace him by making him split time last year. They asked him to take a massive paycut and in spite of both of these things they pinky swore a starting job?

Who would ever even think of such a thing? Even if they did do it there's no way it's written into his contract which means they would have put Parnell in had Free looked as awful as he did in 2012 because they would have been cutting bait on Doug Free this offseason so pissing him off wouldn't have mattered.
