Now that the draft has taken place, it's time to review the 2014 Mel Kiper Jr. Invitational and see who got value in their picks. At least in terms of where these players went in the actual draft.

If you drafted a player 10th overall and he went 18th in the actual draft, you would get a minus 8 value rating. If you drafted the player 18th overall and he went 10th, you get a plus 8 value rating. We do this for each player and then add up the scores to compile a value number for each class.

The goal is to get an overall plus grade for the class. It's very hard to do. Only a handful do it each year.

After the player listing I've included where they were actually picked and the value score in bold. There were 256 players selected in the 2014 NFL Draft. If a player went undrafted he is assigned the 257th draft selection.

After each class listed I've included where they finished in the 2014 Report Card as well as their assigned grade.

Top 2 guys will start from day one, Tre I think has a chance to become the feature back by the end of the season.
1+3 pretty close to actual pick and Moses was the best OT left at 43 (without medical concerns).
And a top 90 pick next year.
Not bad.

Looks good to me.

This is the only way to grade these now, but really, as we all know, we'll know how good these drat really are in a year or two.
The grading is based on how they were drafted....so if someone had gotten Ryan Leaf in the 2nd round, for example, he would be a rock star in this process though it would have been a wasted pick in real life.
But it's fun anyway

I think it would be far more fair to put the plus/minus on a scale for round. For instance... I got insane value in the first 2 rounds (a total of plus 33), and was completely derailed by a 3rd round pick that went undrafted. But turning the 27th overall pick into Odell Beckham Jr. PLUS a 3rd rounder (trade down)? That alone has to get me better than a "D"!

Drug abuse and other off-field activities ruined this scale for my team.

Yeah, in this process taking the 69 player picked number at 1 overall is counted as better than taking pick 178 at pick 108. But in in real life an early rou diss is literally 20-30 times as ad as a late round miss.
But that makes it really hard to grade.
It's all in good fun anyway, but yes, missing by 20 in round 1 should equal missing by 70-80 in 5.

Well I blew.
Obviously having more picks to suck at doesn't help and Yankey's testing killed me. Didn't think he would be so athletically challenged. I still think he'll be a decent pro though.
Johnson in retrospect was a crappy pick.
Reid will be a player in the league. Don't care where he was picked.
