2014 to 2018

My older son went further that that and I don't have the confidence in this team to try and sell him. He's still not too old to seek my advice and I don't want to burn that bridge. You'll know if the team begins to suck and your son calls and says "Oh hey Dad, Mom available"? Bully boy, before handing her that phone just yell "you were right, they all suck"!!!!

Well, we always reserve the right to change our minds. I'm seeing some much-needed changes in policy lately that indicate an honest resolve to become somewhat more open to becoming more realistic in terms of being open to change. Let's see where that takes us. My son is middle aged and certainly old enough to think for himself, so it's not all me and much of his own observations that cause him to see the needed changes in the FO.

I still don’t understand how free agency has turned into a negative thing among this fan base. Just because the cowboys have failed at it before doesn’t mean that it still can’t be used as an effective tool.

Building through the draft and getting younger is great, but I’d still like to see the roster supplemented with more talent through free agency. Plenty of teams do it successfully

Exactly and that's one of the main things that the FO has demonstrated lately that reveals a change in their formerly dormant vet FA stance. They have made some moves lately that definitely reveal a serious willingness to delve into veteran free agency as a tool to improve their roster. There's a point where we all need to take notice of some educated changes in the FO's current policy. If they're open to change, I'm appropriately open to recognizing and acknowledging it. Stubbornly assuming the worst and blindly ignoring what's happening is just that . . . it's blind ignorance.

It’s a great poin and still illustrates our weakness in our FO because of our recent failures we’ve become gun shy it appears not wanting to risk a big miss just going after bargains and mid level to lower supplemental talent.

IMO the higher risk in FA should only be if you already have a great team, have the available Cap space and if it misses doesn’t set you back.

But counting on it to hit big is too great a risk as it can hamper you for years if it doesn’t work out.

Unfortunately unless it’s a QB most teams aren’t pulling the trigger like they used to on big names in FA. It’s much more the exception than example in recent years.

really seems as a whole, the team is really still a mess. it can be fixed, but it wont be just this year.

And he's being compared to GMs that do the job full time with consequences to their decisions.

As someone who has always worked full time and reported to someone, when in a decision making position, I always had to play the "what's the possible downside' and "what's my personal exposure here"? That most definitely affected my decisions as I knew there could be real consequences.

Booger has never felt any consequences to any decision he's made, not one. Ask any CEO in this country if he wouldn't like some of that Teflon.

I have my own theory, among many many others, about Booger and his risk taking, he's a risk junkie. He's not happy when there isn't something in play that is a risk. He's said before that his best wells had the most riding on them. No risk = no reward worth having.
Yeah Jerry is a risk junkie who actually has only “perceived risks”. I think Jerry would make a fascinating psychological study for people who are big risk takers but actually have nothing of real substance on the line.

What I mean is, Jerry fancies himself as this wildcatting-riverboat gambler who has the “guts” to take big risks with players or property no one else will. That’s horse hockey because regardless of the countless stupid risks and decisions Jerry makes, he’s still gonna be a billionaire who is not accountable to anyone for a single bad decision. They can go 0-16 next year and he’s still bulletproof and will be raking in the cash. He’s bulletproof as GM and owner...and he knows it.

He has a bulletproof product that affords him incredible luxury for failure. The last 22 years make that obvious.

About half the teams in the NFL are a mess. Most are a better QB or defense away.

You either have a franchise QB or are looking for one. No coincidence 5 were taken in 1st round this year.

cant argue that, i personally feel talent is dropping, others tell me im wrong. i just dont see it anymore.

Different players, younger players, better players...same 3 in charge, HC, OC, DC....doesn't sound encouraging to me.
Show me on the field coaching staff, show me on the field.

What's not to be encouraged about? Dez is gone!

Maybe that is a good thing. With all the new young guys the team might not have to carry that 2014 monkey on their back. I know as a fan, I still carry it. Still bothers me. LOL (like in a silly annoying way. I don't stay up at night still dwelling on it)

Its great that Dez and Witten are gone.

I’d agree on most. I dealt with Egos like Jerry my whole life in Insurance business.

He wasn’t bulletproof in those early years. Without the immediate success he’d of never sustained. But that’s history. Game over now.

But what gets me is he doesn’t take these big risk on a QB. Why not ?

It’s one thing not wanting an elite front office or coaching staff but why are we not going after the best prospects in draft and or FA?

Just blows my mind. We’re always trying to build around a less than great QB for 20 years now. Without the keen eyes for talent in FO. Unbelievable !!!

id say its good we moved on and that we can move on. i wouldnt say great, they wont be easily replaced right away. we did lose two superstars with question marks. so not great, but good that we did.

We’ve had enough talent in a few of these years just needed one of the best QB’s to overcome our weaknesses and carry us over the threshold.

Imagine now with our much better defense, All World OL and Stud RB what we’d be with one of the top QB’s in the league.

We’re gaining talent in some areas. But not the most important position.

We’ve got to surround our QB with All World OL and league leading rusher to be effective.

So does Jerry get the blame
For the escobar pick? Lol.
How about jaylon pick?
It is a new team, and we just
Have to wait and see how they
Do, with same HC, DC, and oc.

Way too much pining about the past and prior mistakes. Adelante, Adelante. Siempre adelante. Nunca atras..................juniper sierra

I'd like to tack on, if it hasn't been said already, that if you add one more year to that timeline then you're looking at a transition to the current roster from a roster which was terrible. Worst pass defense ever if I recall correctly. George Selvie was working at a smoothie shop when he got signed and started in under a week because our depth was abysmal. Then he went on to have the second most sacks at DE that season if I recall correctly. Our #2 DE started a week after getting hired from a smoothie shop.

Ended 8-8 and took Zach Martin mid-first, and I think that really signalled the beginning of the rebuild. I think Martin over Manziel and the season that followed finally taught Jerry a lesson.

With Dez and Witten’s departure, we lost more in reputation than we lost in talent. Dez is no longer a superstar. If he was, someone would have signed him by now. As much as I respect Witten, his skills had diminished to less than his usual level. He’s a HOFer for sure, but he was no longer playing at his usual high level.
