27. Michael Bennett DT Ohio State (49th overall CBS Sports)
Last year Aaron Donald entered the draft process as an undersized and underrated defensive tackle prospect. I had Donald in my top ten early on and for good reason. Regardless of his size, the tape stood out. Bennett is the closest thing the Cowboys can get to Donald in this draft.
While he really isn't the same type of caliber defensive lineman, Bennett is vastly underrated at the moment. Two years ago he really became a force as the Buckeyes found a home for him as the attacking 3-tech, this year Urban Meyer's team forced Bennett to take on the 1-tech role and Bennett did not thrive and produce the statistics that make people take notice. Later in the season, Meyer turned him back into an attacking defensive tackle and the Buckeye responded to better play.
After Leonard Williams and Danny Shelton, I have Bennett as my 3rd rated DT. While Malcom Brown is a very good prospect, I see Bennett as a perfect fit for what Rod Marinelli is looking for in a DT to get up the field and be disruptive. At worst we could use him as a rotational piece to beef up the pass rush. If they ever want to emulate the Seattle "swarm", then the war room must start using resources on the defensive line like they have to the offensive line.
