  • Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska
Drafted: Dallas Cowboys, 60th overall (2nd round)
Analysis: There is little doubt about Gregory's talent: it's enough that he was in the conversation to go in top 10 or even the top five. That's special and something you can't coach. Off-the-field issues certainly contributed to his fall and that could turn out to be a good thing for the Cowboys, who have dealt with such things before and offer plenty of playing opportunities on an already good team. Pass rush was an area of need and now Gregory can try to harness that talent without the pressure of being a top pick.

Antwan Goodley, WR, Baylor
Drafted:
Undrafted (signed with Dallas Cowboys)
Analysis: Goodley relied so much on his natural ability that with a little refinement, he could be dynamite out of the slot. He gets up field quickly and is able to turn a short catch into a long gain from just about any alignment. His versatility also allows for him to wind up as a Pro Bowl return man, too.

I wish we had taken a shot at Garrett. 5th round for that guy is a still IMO.

I am excited about Goodley. Read about him pre-draft but dismissed because I thought we were looking for speedier types.

We still may, with the Farmer pick up. Odd that he received such a big UDFA pay check compared to other signings.

I thought Goodley was a speedier type - mid 4.4s.

Weird draft profile on Farmer on NFL.com. Calls him a possession receiver with no athleticism. Pretty much the opposite of what he is.

At Serra, Farmer cracked the lineup as a sophomore, starting alongside future USC and Bills wideout Robert Woods in a stacked receiving corps that included former Trojan Marqise Lee, now with the Jaguars, and Seahawks wideout Paul Richardson. The group was fiercely competitive in practice, regularly testing each other’s limits, each of them determined to outdo their equally talented peers.

“But Marqise, Robert, none of those guys could beat George,” says Serra coach Scott Altenberg. “He was a freak – so fast, so talented. It was just so easy for him.”

Which is one reason why he declared for the NFL draft in January, despite limited production in college and several sources – including his coaches at USC – counseling him otherwise. Farmer is aware he won’t be a high pick, but he’s fiercely confident that he’ll stick regardless. All he asks, he says, is for an opportunity to prove he belongs where his former teammates have already arrived.

“They’re not doing anything I can’t do,” Farmer says. “I know what I bring to the table.”

That's a pretty crazy HS receiving corps.

When Monte Kiffin was at USC in 2011 - George Farmer played Tailback after an oustanding HS career as a WR. Farmer is as good a pickup as an UDFA as Byron Jones in R1.
