Cash is almost a linebacker. He's not as tall as Chancellor, but same type of player.

If I was the GM trying to improve the secondary for next year, I would let Claiborne walk. I'd consider re-signing Corey White if it's a reasonable contract. I'd cut Carr and Church, which frees up over $9M in cap room. I'd bring in whoever vouched for Jeff Heath, fire the hell out of him, and then have him grab Heath on his way out. If Danny McCray's agent called me about a new contract, I would laugh for several minutes, and then remove that agent's number from my phone.

I would build the secondary around Scandrick, Byron Jones, and Wilcox, with the idea that WIlcox is going to strong safety. With Jones and Scandrick at CB, we need another starting caliber CB. Tyler Patmon is fine as a 4th or 5th CB.

I attack free agency since you have more control of which players you can potentially bring in. First choice, however unlikely it is that he leaves Kansas City, is Eric Berry. Berry is a huge playmaker and IMO is just short of Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor as far as elite safeties go. A very close second is Tashuan Gibson who has quietly become a top free safety for the Browns after going undrafted; he played his high school ball at Kimball High School in Dallas. Not too many other free agents intrigue me (Eric Weddle would have to give us a great deal), but I keep an eye on restricted free agent Bacarri Rambo in Buffalo. I might explore a trade for Will Hill (Baltimore) or Micah Hyde (Green Bay) as well.

As far as CB's go I maybe monitor Prince Amukamara, Sean Smith, and Greg Toler to see what their contract demands are. I take a hard look at Casey Hayward (age 26), Trumaine Johnson (age 25), and Brandon Boykin (age 25) for my starting caliber/3rd CB vacancy.

Then come draft time, depending on free agency acquisitions, I'm probably looking for a safety and developmental corner. I'm not so sold on Wilcox that I would pass on Jeremy Cash from Duke or Su'a Cravens from USC. Some draft targets would be:

Kendall Fuller CB Virginia Tech
Su'a Cravens S USC
Darian Thompson Boise State
Jeremy Cash S Duke
Cameron Sutton CB Tennessee
Karl Joseph S West Virginia
KeiVarae Russell CB Notre Dame
Max Redfield S Notre Dame
William Jackson III Houston
Desmond King CB Iowa
Kenny Iloka S TCU
Kevin Byard Middle Tennessee

Obviously my guy Jalen Ramsey from Florida State, but I hope we aren't drafting high enough to actually get him.

Love Cash. Fuller, not as much. He's a good player and he's been banged up this season, but I think some of his hype comes from his family name. If I'm looking at DB's at VPI, the guy that gets my attention is Adonis Alexander. He's a frosh, but he is big and he is good and he is gonna get bigger and better.

1000% agree with you. Aaron Donald Part 2.

I really like Cash as well. He's more of a strong safety but he's an upgrade over what we have now.

what is the final injury verdict on the other WVU safety Joseph how bad is the injury?

No real complaints and I do think Jack is a difference maker. Would like to see a QB and RB somewhere.

I hope we collect draft picks to somehow move up to get that RB from LSU he can't enter draft till 2017

From a ND perspective, Russell is a very good player. He struggled a bit early after being out a year but was excellent in the USC game. Redfield? Man, he's an enigma......... tons of talent but just can't quite seem to put it all together. Seems out of position a lot, can bite big time on play fakes, etc. But talent wise, he's got it.

Both Russell and Redfield have another year of eligibility but I suspect Russell will come out. Redfield, might benefit from one more year.
