Note: It's early, so it's a high-level view at the moment. I'll update and provide more detail as things clear up.

Re-sign:
Mo Claiborne - CB - 2yr, 10M
Terrance Williams - WR - 1yr, 4M

Do not re-sign: Wilcox, McClain, Leary, Escobar, Carr

Cut: Free

Restructure: Dez, Witten

Nothing too exciting here. I think Mo does enough this year to look like a solid #2 and takes a fair deal to stay in Dallas. Williams sticks around on a 1 year “prove-it” deal.

Key Free Agents:
Jason Pierre-Paul - DE - 3yr, 40M

I know high prices free agents aren’t our thing, but I think we should take one big, calculated risk to land a quality starter at the DE spot. Also counting on a few value contracts for depth.

Draft:
1 - Jabrill Peppers - SS - Michigan
2 - OJ Howard - TE - Bama
3 - Marcus Williams - FS - Utah

Peppers is a game changer around the LOS who can also make plays in the secondary. Howard is a well rounded, eventual replacement for Witten who should contribute early. Williams is a ball-hawk and traditional center fielder.

Peppers can play some LB and Jones plays a lot of slot, so if all three guys pan out, there are still plenty of snaps for all 3 safeties. It could be a special, very versatile group.

Overall:

JPP, Jabrill Peppers and Jaylon Smith are day 1 starters and upgrades to the defense. The offense is largely the same, with Green stepping in for Free, and Howard backing up Witten.

Projected starting lineup and key reserves:

QB - Romo(Dak)

I don’t know how this will pan out, but I project Dak to show enough to earn a shot after Romo, at the very least.

RB - Elliott (Morris)

WR - Dez/Williams/Beasley

TE - Witten (Howard)

OL - Smith/Collins/Frederick/Marin/Green

---

S - Jones/Peppers (Williams)

CB - Scandrick/Claiborne

LB - Lee/Smith/Hitchens

DE - JPP/Lawrence (Gregory/Mayowa/Tapper)

DL - JPP/Lawrence/Crawford/McClain (Thornton/Irving/Collins)

You planning on the Cowboys being bad enough to be a Top 10 draft pick?

You ain't getting both Peppers and Howard unless we are picking in the top 5 again and doubt we spend 40 mil on a player in free agency thats not our own.

I've seen Peppers go top 5, but I've seen him go in the 15 range as well. We'll see. I think Adams goes ahead of him, and when was the last time we saw two SSs go top 5? As for JPP, I agree that we likely won't do it, but I personally would make a push for him.

And as for Howard, we'll see. He was being mocked in the 3rd before the huge breakout game. And so far this season, he's not getting many targets. His stock will steadily slip if that doesn't change. I'm not sure he's a first round talent, and the top few guys to go in round 2 usually are.

True. Peppers is going to be very hard to gauge. every team is going to have a different grade on him. I still don't think he makes it to us and i hope we go an entire different route anyways. Tons of edge rushers in this years draft. Not getting one on day 1 one or day 2 would be such a let down. And Howard fits the mold of todays TE which is basically a big WR. Thanks Gronk and Jimmy Graham

What DEs are you looking at? I was actually under the impression that this was a weak DE class, in terms of depth.

Smoot, Lawson, and Barnett in the first..well of course Garrett but aint getting him unless we tank again. on day 2 Josh Carraway, Deatrich Wise Jr., Tyquan Lewis. Don't trust the Alabama edge rushers at this time. Daeshon Hall and Lewis Neal are wild cards to me at the moment. One plays opposite of Myles Garrett and other plays in a stacked LSU defense. Gonna have to look at the tape when season is done to see if the skills are actually their or was it because of who plays around him.

I also like Vince Biegel out of Wisconsin as a 4th round target if he last. He too small to play DE and hes not stout enough to be a full time 3-4 OLB but maybe as a SAM linebacker on our scheme. run stopper on 1st and 2nd. maybe use him to blitz or plug at DE for a few downs each game on 3rd downs. Basically a much much better Wilbur. Can play MLB if needed.

For DE's I have Garrett aggie, Lawson auburn, Smoot illinois, Tim Williams bama, Harris mizzou, Barnett tenn,Wise razorbacks, Turay rutgers, Haynes Ole miss, Fields louisville, I have only watched Carraway once and that was the game against the razorbacks, you're probably right he should be on my list.

IMO Lawson might end up the best of the lot, even with Garrett in the mix. He had an injury last year so if that heals properly we would have to be top 5 drafting to gather one of the top tier DE's at this point in time.
