Swept by the Indians to start the year....And Sam Dyson Sucks!!

I still think we'll be good this year but definitely not a good start, even if it was against the defending AL Champs......but Dyson as our closer is a joke, 2 blown Saves already!!

First time opening 0-3 since 2007.

It's not just Dyson. The starting pitching has been meh.

You have to assume that Darvish and Hamels are going to rebound. If they don't then you basically have to just fold up tents now. Darvish had a good game today, Saturday 4/8, even though the home plate ump screwed him hard on the strike zone consistently.

Mostly I think Dyson will be fine. He still has the power sinker going, and its actually working. He's getting ground balls, they're just all finding holes. Should he be the closer? Honestly, probably yes because I want the person I consider the best RP, Bush, to not be tied to getting 3 outs starting clean in the 9th inning. He's more useful facing the middle of the other teams order or coming in when there are men on base already and shutting things down.

To me the question is the 3, 4, 5 starters and can the offense produce enough consistently. Perez looked like Perez in his start, which means he had innings that made him look like a 5 and some that made him look like a 2, which means he's probably a 3. Griffin is what he is, a 5 inning pitcher that will usually not get you so far out of the game that you don't have a chance to win it. the 5th spot is probably Gee, but I'm sorta hoping his stay is short. If Perez can pitch like a 3+ then the rotation should be good enough over all.

And they lost 6-1 today to Oakland. Haven't had this type of start to a season in a decade.

Rangers have now totaled 27% of the one-run losses they had in all of 2016.

Might as well close this thread. Our Rangers are done. Cannot believe they're this dang bad.

They aren't this bad.

The thing is they weren't as good as their record the last two seasons... Especially last season. They were a .500 team if you looked at their runs scored/runs allowed, but that amazing W-L record in one-run games where they won 3 out of every 4 played was what fueled their record.

This year regression has been a *****.

They aren't close to being a good team, but they aren't as bad as their record either.

They are better than Oakland. Better than the Angels. But not better than Houston or Seattle.

I still want to have faith in them. Having Hamels out for like 7 more weeks is not good. Yu has been a disappointment. The bullpen... where do you even start with that dumpster fire?

Beltre's on-field leadership has been sorely missed.

It's a long season and you never know what's going to happen.

For them to reach 90 wins they need to go 77 and 52 the rest of the way.

Beltre's a great player... Borderline HOF in my opinion.

I just think the pitching is way too shaky.

I will still watch every game but, my fervor for Rangers baseball this season has gone out the window already. Hard to get excited when essentially no lead is safe with our sorry bullpen, today was a nice exception.....

Oh no! Although I'll take Harvey off your hands. He's a detriment to the Mets. Change of scenery is needed for that man. ;)
I'm kidding. I lost a bet to @dexternjack over the NFL draft and will shed this MLB avatar the second the NBA playoffs is over. That's right, the 3 majors sports involved in one bet. I don't normally root for a MLB team but when I do, it's for the Texas Ranger.

Historically, I think you're underestimating Beltre. Counting stat wise, 4th in hits, 4th in HR. Advanced stats wise 4th in career bWAR, 5th in JAWS. I think he's not a borderline guy, I think he should be a guaranteed in guy. He's a better defender but a weaker bat then Chipper, but similar value.

As far as the Rangers I think the pitching over all is alright. The starters can't really stand another injury at this point, at least until Ross or Hamels gets back. The Bullpen is begining to round into form. I think the issue is that they are one right handed middle of the order bat away. Napoli looks like he's cratered.

An update on the prospects the Rangers sent to Milwaukee for Lucroy...

Normally, this section is reserved for taking a look at unheralded prospects or new faces on the AL West farm system, but today let’s take a look back at a couple of prospects no longer in the division. The Rangers have won the division each of the past couple of seasons and swung some big midseason trades to bolster their roster for October. Last season saw the Rangers acquire Jonathan Lucroy for Lew Brinson, Luis Ortiz and Ryan Cordell.

A quick look at the prospects that were sent to Milwaukee, may make Rangers fans uncomfortable, as Lucroy’s free agency looms. Brinson has been scorching to start the year, racking up a .327/.398/.515 line along with four home runs and five stolen bases. On top of the offensive output, Brinson continues to excel in centerfield and looks destined to break through with the Brewers later this year. Ortiz has also gotten off to a hot start, posting a 3.00 ERA for Milwaukee’s AA affiliate while striking out 27 in 30 innings. Even Cordell has come out of the gates hot, as the 25 year old has posted a .325/.400/.581 line with six home runs and five stolen bases. Cordell could find a utility role with the Brewers later this year, as he has experience at every spot in the outfield as well as first and third base.
