1. LVE
I think he become a sub package starter if not Day 1 starter. I don't want to say starter and than him backing somebody up the first few games. He will be starting or playing a lot of snaps for us this year.

2. Williams
See above......

3. Gallup
I think he will be in 3 WR sets and have some opportunities. Again its hard for a WR to get playing time and make and immediate impact on the team his first year. I think 10-20 catches would be right where I see him unless somebody get injured.

4. Armstrong
Role Player..........15 snaps a game.

5. Schultz
Role Player.......Special Team and maybe a few plays a game.

6. White
#3 QB

7. Covington
Will have to impress in preseason. We have a few LB on the practice squad and we signed a few after the season. He will have to do something special to make roster. Thomas, Lillard and a few more...but LB always get hurt and always get called up from practice squard. Being a late pick I think Practice Squad is probable.

8 Wilson
Will have to impress.....will have to beat out a few older guys, but has the potential to help. I still like Noah Brown and not sure Wilson can make an impact this year. Plus WR takes time to develop. Also could see him on PS.

9 Bo
Late pick...rooting for him to make Club....i just think he is a Winner....I think he's an Alpha player with an attitude.u don't play at Alabama just becuase of ur rep.....u have to have something special.

What do you think...

LVE
It's fairly up in the air but if I was to predict I'd say Jaylon is our 1st choice SAM, plays 1/3 of MIKE snaps and is cover for Lee at WILL if/when he gets injured. I think LVE plays exclusively WILL but is pretty heavily spelled by Jaylon. I reckon our top 3 LB's will play 600-700 snaps each.

Williams
I think he plays 1000 snaps and slot right in at LG without being pushed too hard by the competition.

Gallup
I think he starts as a backup and pushes TW out of WRZ by years end.

Shultz

I think he's our blocking TE by the end of the season. Swaim may start ahead of him initially. Also plays some sub packages and an ST Role. 300 snaps.

Armstrong
I think he rotates in the pass rush rotation but plays less than 400 snaps.

White
I think he pushes into the no.2 spot after training camp.

Covington

Practice squad

Wilson

Practice Squad

Bo

I think he bounces up and down from the practice squad depending on how many spots we have on the roster. I don' t think he suits up too often though.

I don't think Armstrong, Covington, Wilson or Bo make the roster this year. Don't know how Armstrong's knee is, but I could see him IR'd. We have a lot of DL on the roster. Same with WR and Wilson.

From what I read LVE is here to be the MIKE. He learns fast but he'll look lost for a few games.
CWilliams will start at LG he'll have some hick-up by mid season be secure in his role.
Gallup will be put in here and there this season but 2019 he'll be a starter.

The only other player I'd roll dice with is Bo. He'll get some touches.

barring injury,I'll say all 9 rookies make the team.
LVE,Williams,Gallup...start.
Armstrong,Schultz,Bo...contribute.
White,Wilson,Covington...depth.

Leighton Vander Esch - Starting Mike. The real question is what happens with nickel. Coverage is supposed to be his forte, but Jaylon Smith has experience on him. I'd bet on the rookie, but it could go either way. It's also possible that the Cowboys implement 3-3-5 nickel defense and keep all three on the field in nickel; using Smith as more of a pass rusher.
Connor Williams - He was drafted to be the starting LG. He's going to play as many snaps as he can.
Michael Gallup - Unless the team is ready to ditch Terrance Williams, it's going to take a while for Gallup to win a starting job. I'm fine with this as long as the Cowboys know Gallup is the future and they need to invest snaps in Gallup to develop him; even if it compromises game day readiness.
Dorance Armstrong Jr - He'll play as a rotational DE.
Dalton Schultz - The TE position is wide open. Schultz could be the starter or he could be buried on the depth chart. At the very least, he'll contribute as a ST and as a blocking TE.
Mike White - Open competition for the #2 QB. It could go either way.
Chris Covington - Cowboys aren't super deep at LB. Granted, I don't know how good Covington is, but something tells me the Cowboys think he'll make it as a ST.
Cedrick Wilson - Great value pick, but his chances of making the roster are slim to none. He needs to flat out beat Noah Brown to make the team. I think he'll be a practice squad guy.
Bo Scarbrough - Once again, great value pick, but I question his chances. What he has going for him is the number of true RB's on this team, but if you consider they like Tavon Austin as a "web back" and our FB Jamize Olawale is a converted RB, they might only keep 2 true rb's. If Scarbrough can prove himself on ST's, he'll make this team. Otherwise, it's the PS for him.

Bo

He won't suit up very often because he will always be nicked up. He is the betting favorite to be hurt in the pre-season. Over/under is week 3, and I have the under.

Vander Esch plays WILL exclusively?

Yeah I don't think that's happening. The only way he'd get on the field then is if Lee gets hurt.

Maybe I am misreading your post.

He played 13 and 14 games the last two years at Bama. So he wasn't injured enough those two years to actually miss games.

He may have played, but he was always in and out of the game due to injuries. In the NFL where roster size is much more limited, he won't be active on game day if that continues. I hope I am wrong.

LVE - He'll be the starting Mike in 4-3 looks and I think he might end up stealing Jaylon's snaps in nickel. And of course, he's the first guy up if either Lee or Jaylon misses time. It might come in a few different ways, but Vander Esch is going to get starter snaps.

Connor Williams - he's the starting LG, he's going to play every snap he's healthy.

Micheal Gallup. This one is tough to tell how things might turn out. He's got a clear path to starting if he beats out T-Will, but if he can't then things get murky. I think the team would prefer to have Thompson on the field over him in 4-wide sets to put a deep threat on the field, and they seem to like Noah Brown. So Gallup could be anything from WR2 to WR5 or 6. Preseason will be interesting.

Dorance Armstrong. I think he's going to get lost in the shuffle. LDE snaps are on lock between Lawrence and Taco, and the room is crowded with REs. Crawford's going to get a bunch of snaps, Kony Ealy played well last year, Tapper might be healthy, and we may even see the return of Gregory. I think it's going to be tough for a rookie to displace any of those guys.

Dalton Schultz - the coaches will scribble out Hanna's name in the playbook and put his in.

Mike White - probably ends up on the practice squad. Rush has an extra year of learning the offense that I think will give him a good leg up.

Chris Covington - as thin as we are at linebacker, I think he makes the team. He'll play ST and may even get some snaps on defense if injuries strike, Gachkar style.

Cedrick Wilson - he'll have to fight it out with Noah Brown to be the WR6, and I think the coaches like Brown. Heading to the practice squad.

Bo Scarborough - it depends on how many RBs the team wants to keep. If we keep 3, then Zeke, Rod Smith, and Austin get those slots no question. If we keep 4, he might slide on to the bottom of the roster.

You didn’t misread it, I misswrote it. I meant exclusively MIKE

1. LVE - Starting Mike.
2. Williams - Starting guard for the next 10 years.
3. Gallup - 3rd or 4th receiver with limited action.
4. Armstrong - No clue, can't get a feel for him and haven't ever seen him play a snap. I mean who watches Kansas football?
5. Schultz - Significant snaps and will be the best blocking TE on the roster day one. He was under utilized in the Stanford system.
6. White - I think Dallas carries 3 this year if he plays well.
7. Covington - Doesn't make the team.
8. Wilson - Practice squad
9. Scarborough - Elliott, Smith, and Bo though I doubt he's active for many games. I think Austin will be more of a utility player with a mix of Switzer and Dunbar.

1st - LVE will START at MLB an nickel LB.
2nd - Williams STARTS at LG Day 1.
3rd - Gallup STARTS vs CAR.
4th - Armstrong DE5, inactive/rotation guy.
4th - Shultz STARTS by midseason. TE2.
5th - White was drafted to be QB2.
6th - Covington PS participant.
6th - Wilson WR5. Another 6th rd diamond.
7th - Bo makes 53, inactive all year. 2019 RB2.

I think the T-Will train has left, but based on his contract he will be on the roster unless C-Wilson and/ Noah Brown have great camps and they want to take the hit in the cap which at that point it would be well worth it.

Gallup is the most complete WR the Cowboys currently have on the roster and I will put money he will get 50 plus catches if he is healthy all season.

Without seeing these guys vs real pro competition, it’s very hard to say yet. But based on the little we have to go on so far...

1. LVE- Unless he has an early problem like a hammy, he’s a day one starter at the Mike. Like most rookies, he will struggle early, especially in the passing game covering RBs. I expect him to show flashes and have a bright future.

2. Williams- a Day one starter at LG. May struggle a little in pass protection but will still be an upgrade from last year. By season’s end, he will be very solid if not spectacular.

3. Gallup- probably won’t be a starter this season but I expect to see him early and often in certain packages. Like most young receivers, this year will be huge learning curve but I expect him to catch 20-30 passes. If he’s a quick study, he could possibly be a starter by November. Either way, a bright future.

4. Schultz- Unless we sign an as of yet unforeseen veteran, which I think may happen late summer, I think Schultz will play a lot. He is a very smart player who is already an excellent blocker and will catch at least 10-15 passes this year.

5. Armstrong- backup pass rusher who will make the 53 man roster but I see him as a developmental project, maybe a practice squad guy. He’s a guy that will require great patience because he isn’t NFL ready yet.

6. White- this kid will probably supplant Cooper Rush as the backup. His skill set is better than Rush by far but Rush has an advantage of being here a year. Will be an interesting TC battle.

7. Covington- ST player if he makes the team.

8. Wilson- looks like he will have to battle Noah Brown for roster spot. Key for Wilson will be whether he can be an immediate ST contributor. He’s a long shot to make the team IMO.

9. Scarborough- talent is there but so is the injury history. Would have been a round 2-3 pick if not for those injuries. If he can play STs, he will make the team for sure. Will have to greatly improve pass blocking and receiving skills to see much PT as RB. May develop into a short yardage/goal line runner.

It’s so hard to have much of a gauge without seeing these guys against NFL competition. I’m always skeptical about watching a player’s college film highlights and assuming that will automatically translate into NFL success. The talent level of the NFL is waaaaay better than college. We will see.

What will be interesting is watching the cut list and what teams pick up players the Cowboys release.
And if those players make their 53.

Fwiw

Lawrence is a RDE
Taco and Crawford are LDE, though maybe Taco can move around
Anyway, Armstrong possibly to sqeeze in some RDE snaps, if he makes the 53

1-Leighton Vander Esch-Damien Wilson will have a hard time keeping him out of the starting spot. Starter by mid part of the season

2-Connor Williams-Day 1 starter at LOG

3-Michael Gallup-backup but with some reps could be push for a starter spot later in the season

4-Dorance Armstrong-If all the other pass rushers stay healthy and out of trouble,I don't see Armstrong making a impact

4-Dalton Schultz-will compete with Geoff Swaim as the 2nd TE. Should pass Swaim by Thanksgiving

5-Mike White-Could slide into 2nd QB by late in the season over Cooper Rush

6-Chris Covington-special teams his rookie season unless Cowboys have a rush of injuries.

6-Cedrick Wilson-PS squad player unless Terrance Williams is off our roster. Could get claimed by another team if we try to keep him on the PS all season.

7-3rd string RB,some short yardage situations as a rookie
