2020 Backup QB

I think we need to have an upgrade over Rush as the backup QB in 2020. Maybe we end up getting a castoff, but I think we should be looking for a QB somewhere in the draft.

I don’t think Jaylon Hurts will go high in the draft. He is pretty solid running the ball and can pass a bit.

I would pick him up (or a similar QB) if I could get him in the 4th like we did Dak. I would give him spot play in blowout games or games where we have little chance of coming back.

Dak has been super healthy and our luck is going to eventually run out. We really need a decent backup. Rush doesn’t seem to be that guy.

They should always try to develop a young QB from a mid to late round pick.

We might get a chance this season to see how Rush does when it actually matters. Who knows, maybe he'll be a serviceable backup? I doubt it, but it's possible. Remember, Dak used to suck in practice only to turn things on during regular season games.

We have a back up QB as a HC and we have problems with the back up QB position.

I like Copper, but injuries are going to be more common, so the back up QB is going to be a position of need.

Jalen Hurts is currently being projected as a second round pick but it’s not impossible to see him sneaking into the first. He’d be a good pick for the Saints or Patriots.

But regardless of who, this is set to be the deepest quarterback class since the ‘04 class that had Eli Manning, Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger. It might even be better. They’re writing that there’s 10 to 12 legit quarterbacks in this draft that could develop into starters.

I’m no draft guru but, if that’s true, the Cowboys would be foolish not to draft one. Dak is going to be franchised and they probably won’t have clarity on his deal after the 2020 season.

I'm all for churning out new backups all of the time, but there are positions of need to address too. So there's that to consider. I think a 4th is a good spot for that...maybe a 5th.. anything after that usually takes too long to develop given this team's propensity for usually picking garbage as backups.
