Does Micah save this draft class?

He does, but this draft, other than Parsons was a train wreck from the beginning. NOT using all those 3rd rounders to move up and get guys we wanted in the 2nd and 3rd doomed Jerry. I remember there were all these great targets that kept going right in front of us.

Didnt like any of the 3rd round picks and the 2nd round pick was a joke from the start.

Micah alone still leads me to give this draft an A as any time you pick a future HOF-type talent, you can't say the team did too bad.

That being said, the only other good player on that entire board is OSA.

Outside of those two, not the best class, but servicable. Most of these guys couldn't even contribute on special teams/ make it through their rookie deals which is unfortunate.

I will say, Dallas has picked so well the last decade that our fans have lost perspective as to what most teams' drafts look like. Typically not too different from this minus the All-Pro pass rusher, but if you are going to be as draft-dependent as the Cowboys are, you've got to land 3-4 contributors almost every year and anything else is less than ideal.

So its an A or a failure?

Micah's a beast, and we got our money's worth for Osa.

If you look at most draft classes in retrospective, across all years and across all teams, drafting 2 starters is an average to good result. Like just to pull a name out of a hat, let's look at the 2017 Buccaneers draft class.

2017 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft

Godwin's a stud, but the other guys? Journeymen at best. Howard busted hard.

Or the 2019 Colts.

2019 Indianapolis Colts Draft

Yeesh. I think Rock Ya-Sin is starting for the Raiders now, and none of those other guys did anything.

The point being, you have to manage expectations. People have this notion that a 1st rounder should be a stud, 2nd rounder should be a solid starter, 3rd rounder = okay starter , etc. It's a lot more probabilistic than that. It's like 1st rounder = 50% chance this guy does nothing in the league, 2nd rounder = 75% chance, 3rd rounder = 80% chance. You are buying lotto tickets.

its not great but its not horrid either.. Joseph's trade is on the 53, Micah is a generational talent, Osa, Israel, Gholston and Farniok... Ball was for sure on the 53 also.. 7 of eleven is that considered terrible?

gonna answer the question or no? If everybody sucked and dallas had a top 10 class wouldn't that mean they drafted among the best?

I know most on here have no clue about other teams or watch them.
LOL.......no Im not going to answer that ridiculous question. You expect anyone to remember off the top of their heads all the teams drafts and whether they were good or not?

We've had two more drafts since then. It sucks some of those guys didn’t turn out to be as good as we would have hoped but I’m happy they are replacing them with better players. There was a time when they held onto draft picks no matter how bad they were. This is an improvement over those days.

I mean. This is kind of normal to
Be honest. How many late round picks do
We expect to make it?

The biggest mistake was forcing the pick of Kelvin Joseph because they HAD to draft a CB at all costs after missing out on one in the first.

Most of us knew that was a mistake the moment they did it.

Beyond that? The draft was pretty good.

Are we really shocked that a bunch of the later picks are already off the team? No. That’s what late round picks do. The hits on them are few and far between.

It's an OK draft haul even if you landed a good but not Micah level player in round 1. You came away with one star player in Micah, two rotational players in osa/Golston, and two more still on the roster who could end up contributing this season. Obviously it was a lot of misses in there as well, but they went with the quantity over quality approach. Overall it's pretty rare that teams come away with more than the Cowboys did from that draft.

Micah and Osa make it an excellent draft. (Micah alone would make it an excellent draft). Could it have been better? Sure.
The last truly bad draft the Cowboys had was 2017. 2019 was mediocre.

Every draft will have duds.

I think the only part that stings is the forced corner pick in round 2, and then drafting measurables with Wright in round 3. When both were quite raw as actual corners.

Jimmy cut three 3rd round picks during their rookie training camp(s).

Jimmy never looked back...
Yeah, but after the Walker trade, the Cowboys had eleventy-billion picks and had to cut somebody.

pretty sad for a team that supposedly drafts well. when you blow 2nd round pick most years, it's hard to have a great draft.
They need to stop trying for high risk reward players in the 2nd round. They do better with 3rd and 4th rounders just picking solid guys.
