2021 Free Agents and our Cap

If Dak is signed long term now, who are our big free agents besides(Awuzie and Lewis) and how much cap space do we have?

Almost all 2021 free agents are players that most fans want to replace anyway...

Awuzie is probably the best player of the group.

Don't worry about cap space.
  • The Cowboys will re-sign their own players if it makes sense.
  • They'll sign reasonable cost free agents as short term stop gaps.
  • They'll seek to add talent via the draft.

They were not going to give a top contract to a CB that does not get INTs. Eventually teams will just start throwing at him because they won't fear an INT.

They were not going to pay an aging slot WR with an injury history 9M per on a multi-year deal.

They were not going give a 70M contract to an aging DE/LB tweener that didn't offer much as a run defender.

It will be a rare occurrence for them to sign an outside free agent to a mega-contract.
- If they were going to, 2021 might be the year but only if they have a decent playoff run (i.e. If they got close to a Super Bowl).

Depending on draft, Woods, hopefully Smith, HaHa and Gregory based on their play would be worth bringing back. Not terrible for us, how much space will we have?

Gregory will be a restricted free agent as he hasn't accumulated 4 seasons yet. This would count as his 3rd.

X. Woods
Aldon Smith
Gregory
Ha Ha
Crawford (I know everyone here is dying for him to sign an long term extension)
Our slot receiver (oh, that's right, we don't even have one..Nevermind)
Looney
S. Lee

Just off the top of my head, these guys come to mind
I would love to see the Cowboys draft CB, S, WR and hit on all 3.

Way more than most will guess.

A restructure here, a restructure there....next thing you know the Cowboys are in pretty good shape.

Except that restructuring the debt does not get rid of the debt, it just kicks it down the road a bit.

It's sort of like making the monthly payment for credit card #1 with credit card #2. The debt compounds.
The Cowboys have been in cap hell before, and overspending is how they got there. Cap hell was not a fun place to be.

We have to get used to the new regime here where our entire strategy is no longer predicated upon having an All Pro at every position on the field.

Why on anybody's green earth are you even starting to think about 2021 when the roster hasn't been finalized for 2020 yet. While you're at it why not babble about 2025 and of course you shouldn't forget about 2031.

Consequential guys are the secondary - Lewis, Woods, Awuzie, Dix.

People are saying Gregory, but that's wrong. Should be RFA in 2021 with 3 accrued seasons, *assuming* he gets an accrued season this year.

Dallas has 43 million in cap space for 2021 and they are probably going to keep 9 of these players. I think it's doable.

Cap is based on a % of league revenue. Is going to go down over the next couple of years due to the current crisis and the economic fallout.

Why would you care what I think and than take the time to answer the post. Football is a buisness, I want to know how smart we are preparing and how we look with contracts for next year. It seems we are set up well. Even after speninding big money on our OL,QB,WR1, LB, DE and our RB. We still have enough money to keep good core players next year and still have cap space. Thats a job well done by front office and I haven't felt that way in years.

Like I said why aren't you worried about 2025 and 2031 while you're at it. First off the teams at this point don't even know exactly what the cap number is actually going to be net year. If it turns out that training camp doesn't open on time and the league is either shorten or pushed back will the league have to refund the networks some money which would then affect the cap next year. Second what anyone here thinks about what the cap will possibly be has ZERO to do with what actually happens. Yes EVERYONE knows the NFL is a business but for you to sit and play the Cowboys capologist without being privy to anything the Cowboys are thinking this year let alone next year is like saying can we figure out what the weather will be for each game next season too. Yes it's been a long offseason with the crisis this country is facing but starting to worry about NEXT YEAR'S cap just makes people scratch their heads,.

So about the same as every year. No big deal. Many will not be back, as well, some will not make the tram either. No one stands out as a must sign, nor will lose as many starters, if any at all like we did this year.

Except that restructuring the debt does not get rid of the debt, it just kicks it down the road a bit.

And the cap rises each year.

Say you had a debt. Say that debt actually charged a negative interest rate. Would you put off paying it?

That's exactly what happens when you kick the can on cap charges. The percent of the total cap that money eats is smaller and smaller.

The only folks who don't like this approach are those who struggle with math.

Your the only one scratching your head. Others have no problem at all and I appreciate there input. Again if YOU Dont like the post move on. According to you the whole season can be canceled so lets ask the monitors to shut the whole sight down, lol guys like you crack me up.
look at your post your saying Im playing capologist becaus I want to know how things might look next year.
I forget sometimes that people on this site can be young kids and just look for attention so forgive me if you are.

I know nobody probably listens to you at home and this is the only place you can be heard. I get it and its ok. We all heard you.

You are so far off that is funny!!! I have little doubt that I've been a Cowboys fan a lot longer than you. I started being a Cowboys fan on day one, Jan. 28, 1960. Exaggeration never wins debates. At no time did I say or imply that the season can be cancelled, although it is a very slim chance but it could. Ya I did say it now.. I did say that it could turn out that training camp could get pushed back and if it does then the league would either shorten the regular season or push it back too. If they shorten the regular season I'll bet the network will want a refund for the loss of games they thought they were going to televise. Now if you're that curious about the 2021 season cap there are a couple of websites you can go to and see exactly what the cap hit will be next year. Again to worry about next year and training camp hasn't even opened for this season let a lone the regular season and players that may get injured which could have a bearing on what of if the Cowboys offer another contract next year. There is just way to many factors that play into what you want to know about next year's cap to even start to guess right now. But if you want to play capologist knock your socks off and I'll just sit and laugh at you.
.

Lol again with the capologist. I come on here to try to find insight and engage with other fans. Not to have meaningless debates. So have a good laugh and enjoy.

I would love us to be proactive and extend Woods, Awuzie, and one of the WRs that think will see extensive play time right now.

You're buying low, you're extending out over an additional year for CAP hits, and one less year of market inflation. We won't do it, but it'd be smart.
