I don't know if the exact calculation is made public but contract value plays the biggest factor, with playing time potentially adding or subtracting points. However, the compensation picks don't seem to move a lot unless a player misses signficant time or is benched. In theory if a big dollar player signs with another team playing time probably won't be a significant determinant unless an injury. I guess in Andy's case it may matter a bit, but he was the 26th highest paid free agent so can't see better than a 5th rounder..
