It seems like a bigger pool of unsigned free agents at this point than in previous years.

1: Is this true?

2: If true, then why? Was there a rule change that could have impacted this issue?

3: Are teams really waiting to pass the cutoff date for not counting against comp picks?

4: There are not rules that I know of to prevent teams and players from reaching agreements now but waiting until later to make the signing official.
- Veteran players get more time off while unsigned.

It would be nice to get real answers, not just a bunch of cry baby posts whining about the Cowboys not signing anybody...If you don't like the Cowboys actions, then tell Jerry and Stephen...The rest of us as fans don't need to hear the whining...

These players don't want to do camps they'll rather sign right before the season. OR the teams really could be focused heavy on draft and let the players know they'll get back to them if they didn't fill their needs in the draft

Players want huge contracts. Most teams have signed all the big contracts they care too. So now teams wait and draft, then fill any voids left with remaining free agents but probably not on huge contracts.

1. I don’t think so, just maybe some larger names than recent history. But it’s the same as it has been.

2. the reason is likely because of age. Look at the ages of the players still available, very few under 28. So if there’s something happening this year, maybe it’s that teams are not giving as many bad contracts to their aging stars, so more are available in FA.

3. I don’t think anyone would do this, because it creates a scenario where someone else can just sign the player you were sitting on. If you want him, sign him quickly. No one left is going to make you lose a third rounder, few even a fourth. So you’re willing to risk losing an impact starter over a 5th/6th round comp pick? Who would do that?

4. Same as 3, but from the players’ perspective. Why agree to a deal that a team can renege later on? Sign the first contract that is officially offered, ESPECIALLY before the draft. nothing is assured in the NFL

Tell Jerry and Stephen . . . really?
I'm sure it'd do all kinds of good if one of us said something to those two -- your expectations of their kindness knows no bounds! o_O

I actually read something about this on Twitter. The thinking was a lot of teams are waiting until AFTER the draft and we could see a pretty serious waving of signings.

The draft is in 2 weeks. We won’t see much movement if any until after the draft., and most likely beforeTC. The teams will want to see all their players in OTA’s and mini camps first.
Unless they need to make some signings to fill out the 90 man roster.

I do believe offsetting comp picks is a part of it now, especially since they can be traded.
Last I seen we should get 3 comp picks, a 4th and 2 6ths.

Have not seen if losing Neal has given us a 4th pick or not.

I think that’s true for a few reasons
Comp picks are important to teams
After the draft there will be some players cut because a team got a cheaper replacement
Teams have figured out that if you wait out the average guys you get better deals
Some players are asking more than they are worth

Comp picks became really important when they became tradeable
A 4th can really move you up in the second round to fill a need. A 4th can get you a starter real cheap
Even those later rounds allows you to put better talent on your PS than an UDFA generally is
Being able to trade them really made them much more valuable

Money and asking prices

Teams are up against the cap. They’re waiting until after the draft to address remaining needs and to hopefully see the dollars drop some.

Think it's the comp pick angle.
Why sign a jag free agent if it cost you a draft pick?

Maybe teams are wising up on waiting to fill minor holes with vets until after the draft.

Just my opinion—yes, very much so. I think there is a much larger, bigger name group than most years.

I am not sure as to the why.

The salary cap has been lower due to the circumstances the past couple of years and QB salaries keep going up. I think teams are tired of getting burned by having to overpay free agents and are waiting until their price tags come down. Overpaying for a free agent really hasn’t paid off for many teams. You need to maintain your cap if you’re paying a franchise QB or if you’re looking for one.

Cowboys signed a bunch of people. All quality signings at good prices. So far the offseason is going well. Cowboys have done a great job identifying who to keep and who to let go. Starting out with 25 million over the cap and now 25 million under. Still have the draft and money to spend after the draft.
