ROUND 1 PICK 26

DT MAZI SMITH MICHIGAN
Height: 6-3, Weight: 323
Smith is another one of my favorite players. He’s a power player who can hold up against the run, but I think he will be a better pass rusher than people expect. He just needs to keep his weight in check. (Pete Prisco)

A

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating:
84.13 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Vita Vea

Accolades:

  • 2022: Consensus first-team All-Big Ten
  • 2022: Michigan Defensive Player of the Year
Summary:

Mazi Smith is one of the most athletic NTs to enter the NFL in a while. Not compact, but tall and wide. His flashes of pass-rush ability are outstanding; push-pull, arm over, straight bull rush all very solid, although he's not a bulldozer pushing the pocket. His leverage isn't great. He does adequate planting roots against doubles teams, but it's not a specialty. His run-stopping is mostly contingent upon him using his athleticism to get to the ball. He's not a tremendous block-shedder right now. However, he tracks down RBs very well for being a large NT. He won't be an every-down player in the NFL, but his physical profile and pass-rushing refinement make him a fun NT prospect.

Strengths:

  • Tall, thick frame; unique for the NT spot
  • Veteran-caliber pass-rush moves to win up the field
  • Has the athleticism to get to RBs in close quarters, and has a large tackling radius
Weaknesses:

  • Could get a tick stronger
  • Leverage is very high for an inside rusher, which saps his power
  • Not a tremendous block-shedder
Combine Results:

  • Bench Press: 34 reps

ROUND 2 PICK 58
TE LUKE SCHOONMAKER MICHIGAN
Fun, slippery, speedy TE. Strong hands. Not a YAC type whatsoever and only broke out at the end of a long career. Fun player who fills a need but this is too early. (Chris Trapasso)

C-

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating:
74.88 (Chance to start)

Pro Comparison: Drew Sample

Accolades:

  • 2021-22: Two-time All-Big Ten selection
  • 2021: Shared Most Improved Player (offense) honors
Summary:

Luke Schoonmaker is a tight end with one season of quality production with impressive athleticism off the line and in his routes. He has minimal YAC capabilities and really gets after it as a blocker, both in-line and in space.

Strengths:

  • Explosive off the line
  • Quality route runner who can separate
  • Reliable hands, even to make the difficult grab
  • Awesome blocker, in-line and out in space, powerful and athletic
Weaknesses:

  • One year of legitimate production
  • Older prospect
  • Minimal YAC talent
Combine Results:

  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.63 seconds
  • Vertical: 33.5 inches
  • Broad Jump: 10 feet, 7 inches
  • Shuttle Run: 4.27 seconds

ROUND 3 PICK 90
LB DEMARVION OVERSHOWN TEXAS
Height: 6-3, Weight: 229
Long, athletic off-ball linebacker who has a major tackling issue. Will find the football though in coverage and that's vital. Good, not great explosiveness and range. (Chris Trapasso)

B-

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating:
76.35 (Chance to start)

Pro Comparison: Ernie Sims

Summary:

DeMarvion Overshown constantly fills gaps in run game, and though he's undersized, he packs a punch as a tackler. Better coming downhill vs. run than in coverage. Is he a three-down player, though?

Strengths:

  • Hunt-and-seeks ball-carrier in middle of field; will launch himself to make tackle
  • Will take on OL blocks to shoot/plug A gap in run game while also still trying to make play on ball
  • Shows sideline-to-sideline speed to keep RB types from turning corner
  • Can consistently work his way through trash to get to ball-carrier
  • Flows to ball, reads QB's eyes, and shows wrap-up-tackling ability
Weaknesses:

  • Better coming downhill vs. run than in coverage
  • Works hard to disengage from interior OL blocks but will need to get stronger/bigger
  • Usually good at avoiding iOL blocks in run game. but if he gets locked up it's hard for him to disengage given size differences
Combine Results:

  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.56 seconds
  • Broad Jump: 10 feet, 4 inches
  • Bench Press: 15 reps

ROUND 4 PICK 129
DE VILIAMI FEHOKO SAN JOSE STATE
Height: 6-4, Weight: 276
Advanced rusher who's strong and has a thick EDGE frame. Multiple years of high-level productivity. Athleticism is a little concerning. Love the depth at the position for Dallas here. (Chris Trapasso)

A

Rating: 77.07 (Chance to start)

Pro Comparison: Jalyn Holmes

Accolades:

  • 2022: Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year
  • 2022: 19.0 tackles for loss (led Mountain West)
Summary:

Viliami Fehoko is a hand in the dirt edge rusher who can seal the edge, but would be a liability in coverage. He has a diverse set of pass-rush moves but is still developing a feel for when to use them. Fehoko is capable of turning speed to power, but a bit of hip stiffness leads to ineffective counters at times.

Strengths:

  • Diverse set of pass-rush moves
  • Does a good job of setting the edge
  • Capable of turning speed to power
  • High motor
Weaknesses:

  • A bit of stiffness in the hips
  • Developing feel for the game, like when to use counters
  • Liability in coverage

ROUND 5 PICK 169
OT ASIM RICHARDS NORTH CAROLINA
Height: 6-4, Weight: 309
Undersized, finesse type at OT. Typically good hand work. For his size, he works hard to grow roots in pass pro but has to get stronger at the initial point of attack. Prudent depth pick for Cowboys up front. (Chris Trapasso)

B+

Rating: 68.50 (Role player)

Pro Comparison: Charles Leno

Summary:

Asim Richards is an undersized but long finesse-ish pass pro specialist. He's a quality athlete but at times struggles sliding inside. His hand work is mostly very good. At times, he's a little late with his hands but does a fantastic job controlling with one hand then working his second hand to the EDGE after reacting to his pass-rush move. Anchor is solid for his size, but he does need to get much stronger/add weight at the next level. Balance is good, not amazing, and his grip strength is inconsistent. He's actually better in classic vertical sets than quick setting to get into the blocker early. He's a little lost at the second level and doesn't have people-moving power right now in the run game, but he has run-blocking upside because of his athleticism. Length checks the box, too. Overall, he's a developmental-ish blocker with talent and fine technique.

Strengths:

  • Smooth feet
  • Awesome in classic vertical sets
  • Quality hand work, uses his punch well
Weaknesses:

  • Needs to get nastier at the point of attack
  • Overall balance and grip strength have to improve
  • Second-level climbs are occasionally inaccurate and awkward

ROUND 6 PICK 178
CB ERIC SCOTT JR SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI

Height: 6-2, Weight: 202
Long, explosive cornerback who's best as a linear athlete. Stiffness pops when changing directions. The Cowboys like picking some obscure CBs. Wasn't firmly on the draft radar. (Chris Trapasso)

C-

Draft Scouting Report:
Summary:

Eric Scott, a former three-star recruit from Kansas, appeared in 31 games for Southern Mississippi across the past three seasons. He ended his college career with five interceptions and 12 pass breakups.
Strengths:

  • Good size and length for the position
  • Competitive at the catch point, great burst
Weaknesses:

  • Below average in ability to transition across the field, below average change of direction
  • 15.0% missed tackle rate

ROUND 6 PICK 212

RB DEUCE VAUGHN KANSAS STATE
Height: 5-5, Weight: 179
Darren Sproles Lite. Not as explosive. But similar super-tiny frame. Glides around the field. Can't find him among the trees. Highlight-reel jukes at times but not ridiculously elusive. Useful in the pass game. Impressive pass pro reps. (Chris Trapasso)

B

Rating: 65.57 (Role player)

Pro Comparison: Tarik Cohen

Summary:

Deuce Vaughn is a tiny, low-weight rusher with high-end lateral quicks/cuts. His overall explosiveness doesn't match his side-to-side talent. He has loads of experience and production. He's utilized in the pass game often, even downfield. He has a touch of second-level juice, but long speed is average. Deceptive power through contact due to his super-low center of gravity and thick lower half, but won't run through many tackles in the NFL. He's super patient, which is a double-edged sword; it sometimes leads to him hiding behind his blockers, and other times it leads to lesser gains. He's pretty scary in space and absolutely hides among the trees. He can be a valuable scat back at the next level.

Strengths:

  • Awesome lateral quicks/cutting ability
  • Vision is a plus, even between the tackles
  • Plenty of pass-game experience
  • Contact balance is above-average
Weaknesses:

  • Very small, tiny frame with minimal weight
  • Explosiveness and speed don't match his quickness, long speed is average
  • Tiny catch radius

ROUND 7 PICK 244
WR JALEN BROOKS SOUTH CAROLINA
Height: 6-2, Weight: 205
Rooks is a big, physical boundary receiver that lacks top end speed. He does a good job of flattening his routes across the field but lacks burst. Dallas adds more size to the room. (Josh Edwards)
