I agree with @Risen on this one. They should always take BPA according to their board or then why waste time with a board or window dress it? How many times have they made a choice and Steven says, we didn’t think he would be there but he’s the highest on our board?

I think most GMs actually follow their board and probably lose their jobs more when they stray from it.
So if RB is the highest on the board every round you’re taking 7 backs? Get the hell outta here.

nobody takes bpa every time.

Many times it comes down to BPA at a position of need. Unless that BPA is really that much better, as if a player slips in the draft. Lamb comes to mind on that.

Supposedly such as Nashon Wright did, claiming they had him rated as a 3rd round player when everyone else had him as a 4th to 6th round.
Then we get crap like that at times.

Now taking Clark in the 5th, as an injured player seems so much better than taking Jaylon in the 2nd.

Sure if you are just sticking by the literal definition but we, and the team, are well beyond that ridiculous example. Stack your board seriously, and stick to it is my point.

Agreed. Or if there are two guys very closely rated you’re going with need if other guy is only slightly higher at a position of strength.

So let me give you a better example

lets say players are rated 1-100. It’s pick #26 and you have two players closely rated. One is a DT rated at a value of 87 sitting there. The other player is a safety rated at 89. Are you telling me you’re taking the safety? No freaking way.

Wondering if Malik Davis can be one of the Two.
Good question, I'm guessing when the Oline is working correctly the #2 and #3 RB on a team seems to be just fine. Davis looked like he had juice to me when he played.

Here's a better example of the saying of take the BPA:

You already have a franchise QB. Another generational talent just happens to fall to your draft spot. Do you still take him? Hell yes, because now you have two generational QBs. One of them will net you a huge return in a trade and the other will likely help you win a title.

Obviously you don't draft 7 RBs in one draft if they are BPA. That's just an absurd slippery slope fallacy. Some modicum of rationality has to be at play.

They have literally not added any talent in free agency.

Very good trades. A for sure.

F for adding free agent talent (so far).

B+ for mainitaining free agent talent.

This use to be way to turn a draft pick but now either you trade the pick to the team that wants that QB or they take another in the draft, have not seen the draft and trade in a while..maybe im missing it though.

They upgraded 2 positions that needed it and did it with really good trade values in my opinion. the "Talent" your talking about at CB would replace diggs or at WR would replace Lamb who are both still on rookie deals...Now i would love to see them trade for a top 5 DT are there any available?

See if we get A Lombardi Trophy this season!!
there is noting you could do to ensure that. Lets say Jerry pulled off the greatest trade in FL history and gave up Dak for Mahomes and the Chiefs paid 20 million of Mahomes salary. We could then lose the 2nd playoff game and the same people would still be saying ..... 47 years without a title, Jerry sucks.

You do what you can and you hope for the best.

I don’t think we are far off here. The board is set by the team and factors in style, coaching, need and obviously player ability and much more. When I say BPA, I mean their board and selecting off of that order. The team’s BPA. There’s a ton of info on how Ozzie Newsome and many others do this very thing and it’s communicated better than I am doing right now but bpa is a ranking that the team spends endless time developing, and i think the best drafting teams follow that. There are scenarios where you would skip a name or whatever, but the approach is BPA and it’s the right one in my mind.

Frig that! We need a stud defensive tackle to plug the middle and get a surge up the middle. Would help the DE’s tremendously.
I love that wide-bodied kid from Baylor. Massive nose tackle. He will probably go 1st rd.
