Yep, we're creating a number of holes on fringe players and expecting to fill them with highly inflated FA's.
Look at Osa, he's getting a big pay day, just down to the lack of good DT's on the market.
If we add in a pretty uninspiring O-Line and the need for a run game means we're scraping around for the fundamentals.
I'm for hitting aspects of our game first....fix the lines first.
lack of good DT's that's why I said he's going to cash in as well on FA that's how it usually goes, just because there's a lack, it's beneficial to your financial future! Teams with loads of space will sign him and have a deal in place when the league year opens

I think DLAW will sign a team friendly deal. Lewis has already said publicly that he wants to stay. I think Goodwin will sign for cheap. Kendricks is worth another $3m deal. Anger & Sieg will be resigned.
What he's done for us, he'd be dumb to take 3 million

Lewis, Hoffman, osa, and Turpin are the highest priorities and should be able to sign modest contracts. Only osa probably earning 10-12/year.
Hoffman will be cheap he is a ERFA - they will offer him the minimum or sign him to a team friendly contract. Turpin is an RFA and will probably get a 2nd round tender, meaning his contract will be a little over $4 million. Hope they can resign Lewis, he is on the wrong side of 30 but is valuable in more then just his play. I'm worried Osa contract will surprise a lot of people because he might be the best DT on the open market. Need to get him resigned before free agency starts because I'm guessing it could approach $20 million a year in the open market.

I would like to see Osa, Lewis, Bell, and Kendricks back. Bring Hoffman and Turpin back on their respective tenders. Everyone else can go.

I'm agreeing with you, he's hitting the market and someone, it'll only take one team to overpay....this is the problem with fans clamouring for free agents in general (and I suppose why Jerry pays his own, to keep them off thd market).

Goodwin will follow Fassel
Maybe.

He's been a Cowboy since 2018. He beboped around the league for 3 or 4 years before that & always got signed/released then moved to the Practice Squad.
I have faint memories of the Cowboys actually putting him on the field as a CB for a few plays, but his main assignment (& contract) has always been Special Teams. We've released him a few times & resigned him to the Practice Squad, but he's always ended up as an active player on our Special Teams.

Before I decide on Martin I would want to know more about his injuries this year. How injured was he and how did it affect his play? But He talked about possibly retiring so it m ight be up to him. Something tells me he is not going to go somewhere else at this point in his career.

I would sign all the RFAs and EFRAs.

The rest we have to see how much they want to come back. I would want Lewis and Osa back for sure. Anger is a good punter and holder on FGs. See what he wants but it would be good to have him back if he doesn't want too much.

I would like to re-sign Golston. My guess is they do sign him, but not Osa. The problem is they only have Mazi and Rogers under contract at DT for 2025. They Cowboys allocated less than $10 million of CAP space to DT this year, that for Joseph, Osa, Mazi, and Watkins. With Golston it is $11.1 million. So 5 players with a CAP hit less than a single slightly above average DT cost for most teams.

....and that's the triple problem of: maxing out on elite contracts, one eye on the forthcoming extensions and rounded off with by three less than impactful drafts, meaning we're struggling to even replace the Osa's of the world.

My fear is they sign Golston, let OSA walk and bump Golston inside for more snaps. I get OSA is more of a B player who will demand A money in free agency, but this defense looks significantly worse without him in the lineup, and Golston has shown to be a much better player at DE than when bumped down inside.

I also think they sign Golston and let Osa walk. That is their usual MO. Let the more expensive guy leave and sign the cheaper guy. The Osa-Golston decision is a classic choice for Dallas.

Well a 12 win team that just extended two star players including the QB not being in win now mode doesnt get any grace period from me. They werent rebuilding...they weren't in win now mode....they dont even have a history of utilizing Free agency to make us think this was a fluky offseason. What the hell were they doing then?

Yes you can push cap hits back but the Cowboys have a future cap issue as well....they have already restructured Daks deal to death and the extension hasn't even happened yet, nor has the major restructure that is expected this year happened yet. You need to extend Parsons, Smith, Bland. They are already sitting at $195M in used 2026 cap space...upcoming extensions, restructures, and any new signings will quickly push that up into one of the larger cap hits in the league.

I'm not arguing that the cap cant be manipulated, it absolutely can and teams can push off cap hell for quite a while, but the Cowboys have created a horrible situation after years of lying to the fans and using their cap to give the impression they are maximizing actual money spent. Despite the Dak/Lamb extensions the Cowboys are still on 14th in money spent this season. Last year they were 11th, the previous year 29th. They were ranked high after the first Dak extension, but then 3 of 5 years from 2014-2019 they ranked 30th in the NFL in spending 3 times. Jerry doesnt like to spend on those big signing bonuses to manipulate the cap like other teams are doing.
Jerry acts like a shopper at Nieman Marcus one day and chasing yard sales and trash cans the next day. It's the middle tier and younger players that Jerry is having a problem with. I.E.....the scouting, player evaluation, and player development is lousy.

Big list. Not really much more than usual. But some big names.

Time to move on from some. Most likely they will bring back some core players as usual. And that may not be a bad thing. Need to have players regardless.

A lot may depend upon the HC as well. New or the same.

I have not looked at it enough to give any opinions yet on as who to keep or let all, or test the market.
There is a ton of VOID, Dead and IR money next season.

DLaw 7.4M
Martin 10M
Diggs 14M
Cooks 4M
Gallup 8.7M

First off -strong? Or did you mean average (ish), not great v the run?
Secondly, Osa may well think he can get a better contract on the (poor) market.
Osa is the typical overpay that Jerry has to make to keep them away from FA.
