2025 Salary Cap Projections For All 32 Teams
June 29th, 2024 by Ben Levine

While a number of big-name veterans remain unsigned, 2024 free agency is effectively over. In addition to settling on 53-man rosters ahead of the 2024 campaign, NFL front offices will also use the next few months to sign their extension-eligible players to long-term pacts.

These extensions are obviously intended to keep players locked to their respective teams for the foreseeable future. However, these extensions can also help front offices clean their books as they prepare for future offseasons. With that in mind, here’s a look at where teams currently stand in regards to 2025 cap space (h/t to OverTheCap.com):

New England Patriots $91.93MM
Arizona Cardinals $77.42MM
Washington Commanders $69.51MM
Pittsburgh Steelers $67.98MM
Dallas Cowboys $64.82MM

The numbers above reflect “effective cap space,” meaning they account for the top-51 players and projected rookie classes. This list is based on a projected salary cap of $260MM.

Some of these teams will surely see their totals dry up as they sign players to extensions. This is especially relevant for the Cowboys, who are eyeing lucrative extensions for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Most of the team’s upcoming moves will likely be made with the Dak/CeeDee extensions in mind, and once those deals come to fruition, there’s a good chance the Cowboys end up falling towards the bottom of this list.

It is plausible Dallas’ number actually goes down with a Dak signing, as that 64m$ cap space includes 40m$ in dead cap for Dak that can be spread out if more years are added to his contract.

Someone did not actually read the Cowboys cap situation well. Dak is 40m against the cap next year WITHOUT an extension. If he signs one, they will almost certainly structure it to add 10-15m max to the cap next year over that. Lamb will hold a 20-22m cap hit which basically means the Cowboys will at worst drop to middle of the pack and far from the bottom and that is ignoring any other offseason moves made early next year.

Parsons cap hit is 21.3 million for 2025.

Dallas can resign Lamb and Parsons and have each of their cap hits for 2025 be 10 million, or 20 million total. Dallas actually gains 1 million in cap space in 2025. Dallas can then push the rest of the guaranteed monies out into the future when Dallas will have more cap space. Let's say 180 million over 4 years. Which is an average of 45 million in cap hits for Lamb and Parsons. Justin Jefferson and Nick Bosa each got 88 million guaranteed for 176 million total as example.

Dallas has 179 million in cap space for 2026, 2nd in NFL.

Dallas also has 254 million in cap space for 2027, 10th in NFL.

Dallas can easily resign their players and still have enough to build a team. Plus they draft well.

Agree, however, you then have to factor in the other contracts which are about to expire.
The ideal scenario is to stagger the contracts, but as we know Jerry has the obsession with re-signing everyone, which most every team nowadays acknowledge isn't possible.
The problem was exacerbated by this year's jump in CAP, now players are willing to wait out the final year to enhance their bag......well depending on the Sunday Ticket appeal.

The Cowboys have only two big contracts on the books for 2025, Diggs and Steele. And they can get out from under Steele's if they want.

The dead money from Dak will not be an issue if they extend him and spread it out over the next four or more years. Same for Lamb- they can backload his contract (assuming they ever sign him to one) and pay him big money down the line when there will be more room available. That should leave plenty of room for Parsons and there will still be money left over.

The Jones boys are crying that they are broke and have no cap space. It's a lie. The lack of cap space and free agency spending is THEIR OWN FAULT.

The old excuse for not spending in free agency used to be "we like our guys". Now they aren't even paying them. NO OTHER team operates this way and it's a JOKE.

Very well said. The thing is, we don't even know who they want to keep. They can't not pay anyone and wait until next year. Not if they want to keep all 3. They should have paid Lamb last year. Now they've complicated things.

Lamb's cap hit will probably be around $10 million next year should an extension get done.

So the question is will they ever use that money in free agency? I'm not suggesting blowing it on a bunch of over priced under delivering fas. However, it's been made clear we are not good at drafting DTS for example.

It's best to plan for most likely scenarios.
When making a persuasive argument, if you can demonstrate that even in the upper bound scenarios that their premise fails that is a significantly stronger argument then just arguing on the average. The point is not to plan out the Cowboys most likely cap space in 2025 but to demonstrate that even if you take the upper bounds on what an extension would add that it would not put the Cowboys in the lower end of cap space for the teams in 2025.

Basically there are few stronger ways to demonstrate an erroneous conclusion then by taking every premise they have and showing that even then the conclusion they reached would not happen.
