He was too stubborn to wear shadesThat outfielder of theirs definitely didn't help him.
Cannot believe they didn't rule those two plays as errors as both were catchable.
I spoke too soonTypical Mets, eleven runs one game then a goose egg the next. It is going to be a long season![]()

I don't like it either, but the horrific ball/strike calls were controlling the game. I want to see the players win/lose the games.Boy I’m not sure I like the ABS challenge balls and strikes implemented . The beauty of sports is the flow the spontaneous of it and all these challenges and replays seems so AI .

About time.I see one ump got 6 challenges go against him opening week . Won’t be long before firings start .
The bolded is exactly why I'm for the ABS system. Their calls are controlling games and often dictating outcomes.I hated the idea of ABS in the past, but I've seen too many professional games affected or ended on bad calls by umpires/referees/officials/etc. over the last couple of years.
I actually like the unique reputations some of umpires are known for such as narrow strike zones, wide strike zones, low strike zones, etc. I felt that was part of the game itself to know what the umpire was calling.
All of those questionable calls though in NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. will sometimes make you wonder if the officials were paid off or simply do not like that team or that player despite how silly that sounds.
I personally think teams should get only one ABS challenge per game. No "if call gets overturned, you get another one" policy either.
That would make teams save that call until it matters.
As it is, I've seen batters and even pitchers challenging balls/strikes early in games and why not? it impacts their ERA, so they are motivated to use the challenge to help themselves and not worry what happens in the 9th inning long after their part in the game is done. Besides to them its just one of the challenges .. there's still one they can use in the 9th inning if they need it.
That said, the WBC better offer ABS next time. The Dominican Republic got screwed with the super low called third stirke against the US.
I thought it was just one of those sinkers that crossed high enough to be a strike in the strike zone but dropped before reaching the catcher to make it look like a ball when it wasn't. Then I saw the side angle and that pitch was low and clearly out of the strike zone even before it dropped.
That's when you should use ABS .. not 2nd inning because the starting pitcher hated that he walked a guy with 2 outs.
It's going to have to be more than one. I'm thinking 3 per game that are used w/ no overturn.I hear you to a certain degree but with only one challenge per game as you advocate what about all the other pitches that are missed ?
I would say if you’re going to have this rule the successful challenge per team gets them another challenge until you’re wrong this way it actually shows how many blown calls an ump is getting and why so many .

That is the only way to right the wrong that is being done, namely ruining good at bats and good pitches.
To be fair, there have always been umpires that favored certain areas of the strike zones but they typically did it consistently for both teams and all batters. One umpire had 6 challenges upheld . Yes one challenge obviously not enough.

It will take them some time to adjust their long engrained strike zones to match the dynamic strike zones of the ABS era.
I get that it may upset/embarass some umpires, but in the end, games should be decided by players not umpires.
I would think that rather than focusing on those few times an umpire call gets overturned, they could instead focus on the times they were confirmed to be right and all of the times where there were no challenges.
