you are so far off calling Bailey Average it is not even funny? Do you ever watch a football game?

as regards a kicker not counting I have two words for you

Adam Vinatieri

yeah that is why kickers make so much money and are drafted so high.

The difference between kickers is most often negligible.

No team in the league would build there team around a kicker. The best kickers in the game, bailey is good certainly not the best, do not usually make an impact on the game. Jerry drafting the USC kicker years ago was yet another wasted pick and yet another boneheaded move.

What difference does it make in the overall thread if Bailey is average, slightly below or slightly above? Nobody, I mean nobody, builds around a kicker. Nor do they spend a significant amount of their cap on a kicker. There are lots of good reasons for that.

Homers that keep tolerating the crappy product Jerry puts on the field are just enabling him to keep doing what he does.

Somebody has one of my favorite quotes from Einstein.

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result"

I don't appreciate your personal attack and I think there is a good chance I have played and watched more football than you.

with all these guys "above average" why was Dallas the epitome of average 8-8?

Believe me I wish you were correct, but the play on the field, when they could be on the field doesn't agree with you.

murray had 663 yards and averaged 4.1 carries. Missed several games. Very average

carter 70 total tackles no sacks and no ints. very average

Lee 58 total tackles no sacks 1 int. below average production above average talent, so far unable to remain healthy

claiborne 1 int and 8 passes defensed. below average production

bailey 124 points around average

Smith had some up and down games. He was absolutely abused in a couple.

Bailey missed 2 FGs all year! And I think both misses were beyond 50 yards. His FG percentage is around 93%. That is very, very good.

There are 64 starting corners in the league.. Can you name 32 better than Claiborne?

Regardless.. You are entitled to your own opinions and your own standards for what is average and what is above average or whatever.. All I ask is that you maintain these standards when you evaluate the other teams young talent because if you think Morris Claiborne, Tyron Smith, and Sean Lee haven't proved anything you are going to be beyond unimpressed when you stumble upon the likes of Prince Amakamura, James Brewer, and Jaiquon Williams

Prince? LOL Okay. When has he been a healthy contributor? You funny man.

Speaking of personal attacks... calling someone a homer ain't helping your argument. Your standard is Pro Bowl at every position. Ain't gonna happen friend.

Really great OP and one I do find a lot of hope in.

As the flip-side has suggested though the basis of concern for this team though is two high positions are manned by older vets. To boot, they have no candidate to succeed them currently on the roster and are VERY difficult to find replacements for - QB and RDE.

Another concern is the durability of three players on the < 26 list - Lee, Carter & Murray. Not at all dismissing them, just concerned.

Another concern is that Tyron & Tyrone are the ONLY lineman on the "can count on" lists. Lets hope we successfully add 2 to 3 more names to that list in 6 weeks.

All that said, more important than ever is the need to keep the pipeline of you talent flowing and clean up the cap where possible.

QB is the most important position in the NFL.. In my opinion we have a very good one who can be very good for the next 2 or 3 years.. Do we have his successor yet? No. But we are one of maybe only 15 teams who have a guy that is good enough to start for sure for another few years. One day we will have to find a new QB but I honestly don't think it is worth worrying about right now.

Same thing goes for Ware.. Ware should be effective for another 2 or 3 years.. Will we have to find his replacement by the time he leaves? yes. But in 2 or 3 years hopefully some of the guys off of the bottom lists step up and let us use our first round choices on guys who can replace Ware and Romo.

No one in this league has good young talent starting and on top of that has great young backups who can fill the shoes of guys like Demarcus Ware and Tony Romo

The Durability Concerns are real but I am expecting that Lee and Carter can find a way to stay relatively healthy.. As for Murray I have somewhat lost hope that he will ever get through a full 16 games but I expect to get out of this off season with a few RB's in training camp.. Possibly as high as a 3rd or 4th round pick and a new crop of UFA's (which we scout amazingly recently) So hopefully we can have 2 young backs to be excited about

And yes Tyrone Crawford and Tyron Smith are the only proven guys in the trenches right now but I would be surprised if we can't add at least 3 guys to that list by the time the season starts

Yep. I am actually originally from NY.. Prince is considered a huge bust.. Can't stay healthy and when healthy has been terrible. Can't play the ball, Doesn't like to tackle, and gets burned regularly

Wait, you're tellin' me there are positive people on this forum?

Surprising isn't it since old people are usually crabbycakes and most people in here are elderly enough to be able to call M. Kiffin "Junior" :p:...

Of course. I appreciate you bringing up those valid issues. Just giving my positive spin on those things.. Think we have a lot to look forward to around here especially if we draft correctly

I posted something similar in another thread but I'm interested in what people have to say about this considering every day on this forum I see someone saying something along the lines of "We need to blow it up and get some young talent in here"
Good post!

Because their oline was pitiful and the defense was riddled with injuries.

I mean they lost the whole middle of that defense by year end? Lee. Both safties. rat? I mean ?

Bruce Carter - maybe hasn't really proven it yet. potential is there definitely
Tyron Smith " "
Dan Bailey maybe above average but ................
Morris Claiborne - hasn't done anything yet
Demarco Murray - There are a dozen or more rbs that are either better or outperforming Murray.

the rest of your list is pure speculation

Fact is Dallas is looking at the downside of four of their best players. All on the physical downslope. Romo, Witten, Spencer, Ware.

Here we go! This is more like the CowboyZone I know. Bash someone for an optimistic opinion.

I think the OP nailed it, btw. I just wonder who is responsible for the solid young players? Jerry or Jason?

I do not agree with you.

Carter played extremely well in the games he played
Tyron Smith is already an above average left tackle
Dan Bailey is beyond above average
Claiborne is good enough to start for probably every team in the league already
Murray is easily top 15 RB's in the league when healthy and is probably top 7 or 8 of guys under 25

I agree. And nice job on the analysis, by the way. I look at this roster and I think to myself how are we 8-8? It's baffling. But to me it comes down to one thing, Ronald McDonald. Now if we can only bring in a talented coach, we'll be set.
