If those two guys were your only available choices who would you pick and why? I'm looking for more insight and enlightenment from the greatest fans this planet has ever witnessed:starspin

By the way, I was amazed at the responses concerning Malcolm Kelly and am now of the opinion Sweed is this years Dwayne Bowe...

Felix Jones. No doubt about it. Ray Rice would be a reach in the late first IMO.

My problem with Jones is, from the few games that I've seen, he almost always goes to the outside. He's not gonna be able to get by in the NFL without consistently running thru the O-line.

I cant speak on Rice.

I really like Rice, but @28 Jones is the best value. Plus Jones has more speed that we need at the RB possition considering JJ and TT are probably gone.

Ray Rice reminds me of Clinton Portis...Who ALSO by the way went after William Green, and went in the second round....Ray Rice also reminds me of
Emmitt Smith....Just faster...Safe pick would be Ray Rice.....

I'm not a big Felix Jones fan, but I think Rice is such a reach there that if it's between the two the pick has to be jones.

I could see Rice could be a day 2 pick. Probably high 3rd.

"This has been great preparation for me," the New Rochelle product said. "I think it's going to help me a lot. I know I've improved ever since I've been doing this."

How it translates on draft day remains to be seen. But Rice believes he will surprise a few scouts this week.

"People expected me to run a 4.55 [in the 40], but I'm already down to a 4.4," he said. "You never know what people are going to think, but I'm hoping to convince people I'm worth taking. Whatever happens happens.

I'm not sure how Rice wouldn't be a compliment to Barber. He can run inside and out and I believe he is pretty decent at blitz pickup.

Day 2? or Round 2?

Day 2. Probably no later than the middle of round three.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's taken in the 2nd round, but I think there's also a good possibility he could fall to round 3.

After the top guys (McF, jones, mend, stew,) there's a drop off to chris johnson in the mid 2nd, and then another big drop off to the group of Charles, Rice, and Slaton that could all end up in the 3rd round.

If Rice runs a 4.4 take him.

How is Sweed this year's Dwayne Bowe?

Bowe had a fantastic Senior Bowl and a fantastic Combine. Sweed was mostly absent from the Senior Bowl and may not take part in many of the drills at the combine.

And if Barber, god forbid, were to go down with an injury [performs a hundred Hail Marys] I would be very very nervous about Felix Jones becoming a primary back.

I saw something in him that I saw in Bowe last year.

So are you choosing Rice in this scenario?

So, Chris Johnson ahead of Rice? Is this solely because of his speed and big game on TV or is it because of his overall career?

Rice played 37 games in college. 4,646 yards 5.3 per, 45 TD'S.
Johnson had one good year, the rest were ok. He had 8 games of 100 yards or more in 4 years. Rice had 22 in 3 years.

if ray rice and chris johnson are still on the board, by the 28th, i think there is a good chance one or both will be available with our second round pick. i say pass on jones in that case. i like both johnson and rice as much if not more than jones.

Yup, good call. I think Ray Rice is more of complete back than Felix Jones and would love to get him in second round.

Personally I'm not a CJ fan at all. I'm just mosely basing this on what the general consensus seems to be among draft "experts" (example1, example2, example3)

I think Rice will probably be a better pro, but at this point Johnson has the better potential and will probably be taken earlier.

I hear you. That's what usually ends up biting GM's on the hind parts. Johnson has the flash for sure, but in the end I think that may be all that it adds up to.

Maybe I should re-word this thread to read, Do you bypass Jones at 28 and grab Rice with our 3rd pick? I wanted to over simplify my thread to see what the consensus was concerning these two backs. I've heard many say Rice is the 2nd coming of E. Smith...

I kinda like the idea of getting C Johnson and converting him to WR and possibly a #3 rb....
