2nd and 3rd Round Picks Should Be Coming at Positions the Team Rarely Addresses

1T and S are positions the FO hasn’t spent a top 3 round pick on in years. This year we are all penciling it in that those positions will be addressed with those resources.

How many of y’all believe they’ll use one of these picks on these positions? Do we think they will use multiple?

For example, I know we love McNeill (me included). But I could easily see the team waiting until round 6 to take a run-stuffer rather than take a higher upside guy like Alim in round 2. Or them being lulled by the Kazee signing that they wait until round 5 to take Sterns or one of the other developmental mid-round S’s.

I’m usually optimistic about our drafts as I generally like the picks. But chalking up a 1T of FS in rounds 2/3 seems like a shaky proposition to me. I’ve seen them pass that over far too many times.

p.s.

I’m encouraged by last years defensive draft as it seemed a lot more BPA than scheme or size related. I was surprised how many guys on my board/big names we picked. Hopefully that’s a good omen.

Great topic. I think the 3rd or 4 th round is a great place to find that 1T. I think we all love McNeil and if he’s there in the 3rd I’m all in. Sterns is a local guy to keep an eye on. We don’t need to use a 1st or 2nd rounder. But waiting til round 5 and 6 ain’t the answer either.

The encouraging news is I heard they really like Togiai and their new DL coach was at Florida State looking at Marvin Wilson
