Projected Role: competing for starting free safety? special teamer

Position: S
Class: Sr
School: Florida State
Conference: Atlantic Coast
Ht., Wt.: 6-4.5, 222
40 Time: 4.47

POSITIVES: Nice-sized athlete coming off a disappointing senior campaign. Explodes up the field defending running plays or screens and goes for the knockout blow. Displays good range to the sidelines, effective facing the action and flashes ball skills. Quick changing direction and stays with receivers out from their breaks. Outstanding special-teamer effective on coverage units.

NEGATIVES: Struggles with his back to the ball, slow locating the pass and very indecisive.

ANALYSIS: An athletic safety with the skills and range to play centerfield, Watkins graded out as a top-45 pick until last year. Has a bit of risk to his game yet offers starting potential for a team patient with him.

Love it.......fills a definite need.....an elite ST player. Great Center fielder at the S position.

This makes up for taking Hatcher and Green just a tad to early, I'am glad he fell to us!. This pick really makes our draft, IMO!.

Both of these day 2 picks will be on the active roster for games next season because they can play sp. teams if nothing else.
I think Green and Watkins both provide good upside to be starters down the road also.
Green is undersized but some of the best wr's in today's NFL are about his size. Give him some time to develop.
Watkins has the size/speed going for him and all he needs is to learn from Coleman and more importantly than anything else, is that we have finally gotten a true free safety in the draft!
It's been a long draught.

Sweet pick. FS's are a dime a dozen. No need to panic and grab one too early.

Best value of the day.

I hate the Punt returner pick. I absolutely hate it!!!

Hatcher was due to be picked at any time. Lucky we got him. Green was the last elite return man and was sliding some. Again, lucky we got him.

Love it.

Would love it even more if his development weren't left up to that reowned genius of secondary tutorage, Mike Zimmer.

Don't think Zimmer is in charge of secondary anymore. Parcells removed him cause he wanted him fully devoted to developing the entire defense scheme, etc. and not tied down to also being a position coach. Also think maybe if he was your position coach, the players probably got shortchanged somewhat.
