Um, so I burned my leg pretty badly on a motorcycle muffler. Now my whole leg is killing me to walk. Any ideas on how to treat a burn without going to the Dr.? The burn is about 4 inches wide and 2 inches long, extreme pain and even my whole lower leg hurts.

Suggestions?

Calamine lotion? Or maybe some white vinegar to neutralize the pain. At least Tyler Durden said it worked. I burnt my finger and put it in a cap of the stuff and it did take a way the pain, but I couldn't walk around with a cap of vinegar on my hand and I doubt you can constantly irrigate your leg with it. I'd try the calamine.

Go see a doctor, espec if you don't want scarring. I burned my leg on a motorcycle muffler 20 years ago and needed a small skin graft :(

There is a nice burn cream you can use called silver sulfadiazine but I think it for superficial burns.

I think I'm just going to sit it out and put some triple antibiotic ointment, aloe and wrap it with an ace bandage when working.

Man, just go to a doctor. They will give you better care than you can give yourself and they have better drugs. Hope you get to feeling better.

Tylenol, Aspirin or Aleve might help.

If it develops a blister and is draining, let it drain but make sure to keep the area clean. Do NOT put ointment on it if there is drainage because ointment will keep the moisture in and you want it to drain out. Use a cream and some gauze dressing.

If there is no drainage then you can point ointment on it to restore some moisture to the area. Cover with gauze dressing.

If the blister isn't in tact, don't be antsy and pull away dead skin because you'll likely pull off some live skin with it and delay the whole process.

Avoid rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.

get some VITAMIN E LIQUIDS PILLS

PUSH A PIN THRU THEM TO OPEN THEM

and soak it down the liquid

I burned my hands long time ago went straight home don't have even the slightest scar from

You have to first get the heat out as much as you can. I recommend soaking it in very cold water. Add ice if you can stand it. At least 20 minutes.

Aloe vera or vitamin E are both very good for this.

Get you something for the pain, ibuprofen at least.

Keep it clean. Don't let other clothes touch it while it is healing. No high socks or long pants unless you bandage it.

Keep it elevated and take it easy for a while.

If the pain is too much, swallow your pride and go see the Doc.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

Rub some dirt in it and walk it off.

Just to add to my tough guy rant 5 days ago the power went out and I had to manually open/close the garage door. When I was closing it I caught my middle and ring finger inbetween the panels of the door and it hurt quite something. Well they never turned purple but I still have some numbness in the tips, I just walked it off.

Rub some 'Tussin on it and you'll be good to go.

Second this.

Once you let that tussin get all down to the bone, you're pretty much as good as new.

The pain isn't much, it just looks swollen and stuff, like it isn't pretty. And I'm not vain, but it's gonna leave a mark.

This is the best advice. There are physicians on this board and they would point you in that direction. If your burn is serious, don't wait.

Has it affected your thinking any?

Anyway, Hostile said ice, ... good advice.
