2nd round pick. since Jimmy Johnson left. BUST. BUST. BUST

Define bust. There's a lot of grey area with that label. For me at least. Tony Mandarich is the definition of a bust, imo. DeMarcus Lawrence was not a bust under any definition of the word.
Right way overreaction and dramatic to list many players that were solid and call them a bust..this is a no gray area zone dramatic both directions..

They get no like from me trying to sneak in good players on that list…

List the GM / Coaches for those players. You're complaining about the wrong thing. IMHO.

Gotta keep it in context though. How is the rest of the league doing in round 2 and what are the expectations for a round 2 player?

Looking at the data only around 15-20% of 2nd rounders will ever make a pro bowl in their career. Only about 50% ever make it to be multi year starters. When you factor positional hit/bust rates that adds to the problem as well. Edge players in round 2 have pretty low hit rates and we’ve gone that direction many times. CBs taken in round 2 seem to get starting opportunities, but rarely thrive.

By that definition (I know that won’t be popular), but guys like Awuzie, Connor Williams, heck even Quincy Carter could be argued as good picks.

I think the issue we run into is thinking round 2 are auto starters/impact players. Thats what we hope for but really getting a good rotational player is often a round 2 win. This is also probably where we should be making more of a push for offensive linemen.

There are others, your definition of bust is way off!!!

Lost all crdibitly, useless inaccurate post.. all teams have issues all over the draft…

You left off Larry Allen, lol. Andre Gurode, Kevin Burnett, Sean Lee, Demarcus Lawrence, Chidobe Awuzie, Connor Williams, and Trevon Diggs were solid good to very good pros. The Cowboys and Jerry like to use the second round to fill open roster spots and the draft cannot be managed that way.

You cannot take injured guy that would have gone in the first round except for the tiny issue of having one functional leg. You also cannot take-would have gone in the first round if I could just lay off the drugs when I know that they will drug test at the scouting combine.

No bro!!! this is just "since 1996" ...the last SB....and the meaning of "bust" is not JUST the player...but the the value....J.P contract contract expires at the end of the season... from what I read, his physical condition does NOT guarantee a better future.

Joey Porter for a 2nd was a very good trade, our even some of our 1st-rounders are not of that quality of player. Step 1 is complete, now re-signing him will be Step 2, worry about that next year.

Dwayne Goodrich was certainly destined to fail when he identified as Idi Amin and switched to DT. He looked really good for 75 years old though.

Lot of busts in that list.
There were also some quality players that went on to get a second contract either with the cowboys or other teams.

Some like Sean Lee was an issue of his injury history but otherwise when healthy he was a hell of a player.
I kind of think the entire "every 2nd round pick for Dallas is a bust" narrative is over exaggerated.

I see a lot of pro bowlers on that list and guys who went on to play a long time in the league.

Sure, there are some busts, but there are all over the draft.

The only bad part is a 14 gsme contract vs a 4 year one
He was holding out for a contract so I'd assume they have something in the works. Maybe it's an agreement for after the season or maybe we see an extension soon.

The downside is that you don't get surplus contract value.

With the cap situation right now, though, that's not a big deal.
Cap situation lol. That's laughable really. They can extend porter right now without any issues. They have plenty of ability to sign almost any non quarterback.
