I could care less what the guy says in his Rap crap, as long as he is staying drug free and not getting in trouble, I will be a happy fan.

What I do care about is what Martellus can bring to this offense in 09.

With Witten, we already have one of, if not the top TE in the league, guy can do it all, and now add to that a young, athletic freak in Martellus and WHALA... can you say 2 TE set.... finally.

BP tried to establish a "true" 2 TE base set, but fell just short with the selection of Fasano.

Not knocking BP as hard as some might with that pick, I understood what he was attempting, and he came really close with Fasano, but he just wasnt enough of a component in the 2 TE set, that would make it effective and dominate.

What you need is what we got... now... Martellus brings that factor to the equation, that IMO, will elevate the formation to a dominating level, that could really set defenses back on their heels.

Inorder to employ the 2TE formation, you have to have to "legit" TE's, and that isnt an easy thing to accomplish. Most teams will not make the efforts in the draft to aquire the necessary components, it took 2 number 2s in the draft inorder to get the final piece to compliment Witten properly.

This should be a strength of the 09 offense, with a stable of diversity at RB.... 3 starters.... thats huge, and finally 2 TE's that can both block and catch, this offense is prime as ever to take full advantage.

The only road block that I can see is rather or not Red Ball will actually acknowledge or maybe a better word.. "recognize",, this weapon that is now in his arsenal.

Didn't Garrett want Bennett in the draft last year. I thought that he pushed for Jerry to draft him. But I could be wrong.

Wow, I just posted a new thread on Bennett. I think Garrett and others tried to keep JJ from trading up to get Bennett. I don't remember Garrett being high on him although it certainly wouldn't surprise me an OC would champion an offensive talent like Bennett.

Garrett just needs to find a way to exploit him. Imagine third and 4 with Bennett, Witten, RW, Austin/Crayton, and a RB on the field. Witten or Bennett could be motioned and/or split wide to cause matchup problems.

He has good hands. Being a starter on a team that throws to the TE means his number should have went up.

I wholeheartedly agree about using two TE formations. As I've posted in another thread, I also like using two TEs and two RBs on 3rd and 3 or 3rd and 4.

He was better than he was with the Cowboys, but he still didn't produce that much even with starter's snaps. Bennett is a much more talented player.

I agree.

Bennett is a guy that fits the new mold of TE in this league. Guys that are just freakishly athletic and are almost impossible to cover down the seam. I think he still has a lot of maturing to do physically and mentally, when he comes into his own - I expect really big things out of him.

And I have made a total 180 since last April when I despised the pick. Oh well, hindsight.

agreed. bennett is a much better player than cricket and should be on the field as much as possible. Indy has run a 2 TE set for years and last I checked, their offense was pretty good.

We tried this last year, it did not work.

Bennett was a rook last year.
A full off season should season the kid a bit, and I would expect a better more thorough understanding of the offense for 09.

No better time to succeed with the 2 TE set when you have 2 number 1 receivers on your team, a pro bowl TE, Romo, Felix,Barber, and Bigg. If you can't make it work with that unit, rookie or not, it just won't work.

Not true. Bennett's familiarity with the offense, his continued physical and mental maturation, and a full offseason of understanding that Bennett is a true weapon, just like Witten is, should make the Cowboys 2-TE set much more dangerous this season.

Besides... we still have everyone you mentioned except T.O., and he was beginning to lose his effectiveness last season anyway. Not to mention that by the time Bennett actually had his breakout, Felix was sidelined for good. This year we will have him on the field at the same time. I'd take Felix on the Field over an aging T.O. any day.

Here's our best lineups as I see them.

1) WR Williams, WR Austin, TE Witten, TE Bennett, RB Barber - This is should be our base formation. Start and end the game with it. Barber's skill set works best out of the single back formation. 2 TE's puts our best receivers on the field without taking away from our run game since both our TE's block so well.
2) WR Williams, WR Austin, TE Witten, RB Jones, FB Barber - Not sure we'll see much of this from Garrett, but I'm convinced it would work real well. When you describe Barber's game it reads like a FB. I think he'd be an excellent lead blocker for Jones and present a much better true run threat than any other FB. What I like best about this package is the ability to put Jones in motion into a 3rd WR position.
3) WR Williams, WR Austin, WR Crayton, TE Witten, RB Jones - This should be our base formation on passing 3rd downs.

On 3rd and 3 or 4: TE Witten, TE Bennett, WR Roy Williams, RB Felix Jones, and RB Barber/Choice. Many, many different options with this lineup and 5 or fewer yards needed. Defenses won't know what to expect.
