3-4 deployed improperly because of our secondary

Our secondary does not allow our front 7 to be deployed they way it should. I think we need to stop playing with 2 safeties. What is the point? DeMarcus Ware is more athletic than all of our safeties...all of our LBs....and a couple of our CBs. What does this mean? We have to have in coverage too often to cover up for our deficiencies in the secondary. And the bottom line is this....either get those CBs in the face of these WRs....or solid QBs will do this all night and day. Whey spend a top 5 pick on Newman that included a huge signining bonus, then extend him for 50m, which included another huge signing bonus if you are not going to MAKE HIM GET IN SOMEBODIES face and follow them to the bathroom?

Why draft Jenkins in the first round.

Why take the risk and publicity nightmare on Pac Man Jones.

I thought one of the reason we did not like DeSean Jackosn was because of how small he was....then why give him a free release off the line. I mean we have done a better job on Steve Smith with "allegedly worst secondary talent"

Our front 7 for the most part is a run stopping defensive front with a zone secondary.....simply a nightmare for passing teams. Did you see what Green Bay did to Detroit yesterday? Do you remember how easily Detroit moved the ball on us?

We bite on play fakes against PASSING teams? Why would we do that when we are playing off guys. That is what our front CAN do. So why would anyone in the secondary bite?

We make 3rd, 4th and 5th WRs look like starters. Why not press them and prove they can beat man coverage? Zone defense is UTOPIA for teams with a good QB and solid OL. With the WRs Philly has we should have made them EARN it. Make them prove that Pac, or Newman, or Jenkins, or Scandrick could not run with them.

It's not about being unhappy with the win. It is about a secondary that seems no different to me against GOOD teams.

I don't know the answer and neither does our coaches.

And thats the sad part.

The secondary is being hand cuffed but ineptitude of Brian Stewart and Wade. Why the hell do we have all this talent on secondary but play 20 yards off the receiver it screams prevent or vanilla defense

is it the coaching staff...or our these guys in the secondary as good as we and/or they think they are?

Its the coaching

What can the guys in the secondary do when they are playing 15 yards off the receiver? And add to that the pass rush wasn't getting there at times

There is nothing they can do.

we need to start bumping wrs at the line cause the pressure we get seems like nothing when the wrs have 15 yards of open space to run before our corners are even close.

Yeah I don't get it either.... I always wonder when this defense is going to take the next step and become dominant like the ravens, bears, steelers etc... Sometimes I feel like just blowing the entire team up but.... oh well... hopefully things get better when newman and spencer get healthy. Chicago was flat out awful last year when their secondary was all banged up, now they're back to being a great defense again with health.

And what kills me is the Pats defense is good but they have nobodies in their secondary.

Great coaching is what that is.

Bad coaching on the defensive side of the ball for this team. They aren't going to the strengths of the players.

our secondary is NOT unhealthy.....Henry is fine...Pac is fine...Jenkins is fine...Scandrick is fine....Newman is close to 100% and would be starting ig these were playoff games....health is not an excuse...esepcially when you condsider the Eagles were playing with WRs at the bottom of there depth chart

It is the coaching staff. Wade has been criticized for this in San Diego as well.

Wade tends to go soft-zone. He did it against the Patriots in his last season as the coordinator, in their play-off game if I remember. The only reason that the Patriots came back was because Wade went soft-zone, allowing the Pats to score in the final drivee if I remember correctly.

On the plus side there were quite a few times I saw last night where mcnabb pretty much got coverage sacks because he had no where to go after holding on to the ball for ages, but those are few and far between.. need to just be a better defense.

you cannot play soft zones agaisnt good QBs...good QBs will not panic, they will find the open man...again, the Eagles were playing with the bottom of there depth chart WRs....not hard to get open when no one is checking you!

The defense made half-time adjustments and came out and played their best when it mattered the most.

Explain how that isn't good?

In the 90's we win that game and everyone would be talking about the character of our guys, and how you can't keep us down.

It happens with this team and people are calling for the coaches' heads.

come on now

Do you even see the similarities of this defense from last year despite the better secondary this year?

Hell, you can't do that against average QBs. Jason Campbell was throwing the ball everywhere last year. Aaron Glenn was moving the ball up the field also.

What adjustments? The Cowboys offebse took up the majority of the TOP the second half. The Eagles also dropped a lot of balls, and McNabb had that botched fumble, which had nothing to do with the defense.

I agree. Romo made a couple of mistake that hurt us and lead to Philly points, The refs made a horrible call on the Henry pass interference that put Philly on the 1 which lead to another TD. No doubt the defense is not playing to the level I would like to see but I think some are going a bit over board.

The secondary is pretty much a push today compared to last year.

I know what talents we have but the experience isn't there, and Pac is RUSTY. It was game two and I have to think that talent will pay dividends later in the year.

Potentially it will be a great secondary, but to expect that already isn't realistic.

Let's see whaat happens with Roy Williams out. Maybe we will move Hamlin to SS and play Henry at FS. That would allow Newman, Jones, and Jenkins to play CB. Not having Roy may actually allow us to see what we can do......without him, not to sound harsh.

Notice how the coverage tightened up when he went out.
