3-4 does not matter

Looks like the same defense as last year; little pressure on the qb

Very little pressure the lb play is suffering the dline getting no push up the middle

Growing pains every where on this defense; but I was told the 3-4 was this magical defense that made QB struggle against it


Don't get me wrong I like having the young guys out there; It was funny how the scheme switch was going to solve all and the young guys would dominate from day one.

Yet we are seeing the same thing as we did in preseason little pressure on the qb (except ware on ocassion) and the soft spot in the defense between the lb and safeties. The LB play is not great and has holes and is vunerable in the passing game and they are not generating enough of a pass rush. In the 3-4 that is there job not the dline.

3-4 gives up middle pressure for edge..UNLESS you bring the middle backer in. Braddie and Dat dont have those skills IMHO.

Dragon that post was in reference into the 3-4 is the greatest thing since slice bread that has gone on since last year and how it was a cure all.

I said all along that going 3-4 from 4-3 was not going to make us better by itself it would take the proper personnel the problem is the proper personnel is mainly rookies this defense is going to struggle and struggle quite a bit.

I love playing the young guys I just expected the growing pains

We need to give the defense some time. I think we all should expect some growing pains. New defensive scheme, many new players. Was it very good today? Not really, but I think it has potential. There are a few more pieces to add in the offseason to make it elite. Other than a few people, I don't think anyone expected it to come out and dominate on day one.

I still think they need to find a way to sneak an extra DL on the field a bit more often. Thats where the talent on this team is at. Call it a 3-4 with an extra lineman, 4-3 over/under, whatever. Scheme it however you like and call it whatever you want, but I'd like to see the talented DL on the field more. The best pass rush was from the nickel. Maybe Fujita will help.

I have to question the call to blitz BOTH safeties on third and long when Parker had that first down catch. I didn't like that call at all.

well considering Sandiego had a 360 LG protecting Brees thats why we didnt get much pressur eup the middle.

Let's not forget they pretty much shut down the BEST rb in the entire league. AND, they're only going to get better as the season wears on.

I think they did an excellent job.

This was the first game with a new defense and new starters in half of the defensive positions. LT was supposed to tear us up despite Gates being out. His long run was 10 yards.

I can understand what Kangaroo is saying, that for a few years now we have been swamped with threads about having to swtich to 3-4 because it would magically make our defense better.

The rest of us knew that having good players is the real cureall, which Parcells said in a recent press conference as well.

It doesn't matter what scheme we run, when things start clicking in these rookies' heads we will start to see a marked improvement.

I felt heading into the reg season that this defense would make some mistakes especially the rookie but they would also came up with some big plays which they did. For the next few games I think we will have to take the good with the bad as these rookies and the defense in general gets a feel for what we are trying to do.

We were stout inside, LT had to go outside to get yardage. Ware just needs a few more games under his belt, and someday Spears will provide that interior pressure.
