3/4 or Bust??????

Well it's a BUST!!!!!

We have six 1st round draft choices playing in this D:

Roy
Newman
Ware
Spears
Carpenter
Ellis

Yet this is what we see: (or don't see):

A straight up D

No Pressure on the QB

No Stunts

A lack of creativity

No Blitz packages that work......

No Zone Blitz

No Slant Blitz

No stunts

No attitude

No attack to the ball

A bend but don't break philosophy.....that usually breaks

We spend all of these draft choices and money on this D but we forgot one important aspect:


THE DEFENSIVE COACH?????????????????.................

IMO, Zimmer's job has been to run the 3-4 defense exactly how Parcells wants it run.

What the Cowboys need is a defensive coordinator who can run the 3-4 defense better than Parcells.

Whomever is resposible needs to be held accountable. So far this has been a waste of time, effort, and money.

I put much of this disaster on the Coaching Staff, How can we out scheme the Colts and show none of that against the Saints and Eagles?.

BINGO!!

Zimmers "strength" is the 4-3. He has had to adapt to the 3-4 due to Parcells. I feel that if we are to run the 3-4, then we need a coach which is very good at it as in Dom Capers or such. Not a coach in training.

I just don't understand how the D was looking as good at the beginning of the year, to which you should expect better preformance as they "gel", but instead it has gotten worse.

I guess that I'm ready to get on the GROZ movement. Any room left?

Yes......because we do not have anyone else, other than Ware, that can pressure the QB. So we've been told.

I just want to see this sorry state of affairs get fixed. I don't need to see the guilty parties go to jail.

It is entirely possible that Zimmer is only doing what Parcells wants and that Parcells is the "guilty" one.

But if fixing the situation means that Zimmer gets fired and a better 3-4 guy, with credentials and more autonomy, can be hired, I'm on board.

I'm not so sure Zimmer is the issue, but I'm all for trying something new. Its much easier to change the DC than to rebuild a defense that is supposed to already be built with high picks and lots of cap dollars committed.

We can only hope it is the coaching or even the scheme. If it's the players, well we are in mucho trouble......for years to come.

I started a thread about our defense looking tired. I think they are running out of gas for some reason. Maybe Parcells was working them too hard during training camp and it's catching up with the players.

Im going to say it's the 3-4 because it's an complicated smaller type defense. I believe the 4-3 is better with the players we have because we have depth.

I think we need to let Zimmer do what he wants going into the play offs which is 4-3.

Certainly wouldn't hurt anymore than what we've seen from the 3/4 these past few games.

brings up a great point. How do we even know Parcells is even any good at setting up a 3-4 defense. Belichick was clearly the brains behind that success with Parcells.

You're not allowed to criticize our hallowed DC because it's not his fault. The stats say we're great. The defense truly sucks now because Greg Ellis isn't playing .

In all seriousness, offense and defense has changed dramatically since Parcells won his last Superbowl. Gibbs discovered that when he tried to return with his vanilla counter plays. Parcells is now discovering that regarding his vanilla defense. There are no LT's or Carl Banks' on this defense, and even if there were offensive coaching and OL play has more than caught up.

We were overpowered on the line yesterday, then slashed by a quick and decisive runner who made our LB's look slow. If the 3-4 cant't generate a passrush by scheme, then what good is it over a 4-3?

The problem is the Cowboys drafted more average to good players and not enough for sure playmakers or as some would call catalytic guys!

Exactly, people act like Zimmer is there just to be BP's puppet yet they say that BP is nothing without Weis and Belichick. It doesnt work both ways, Zimmer has to be held accountable I dont care what scheme is his "strength" he is the defensive coordinator of a team that runs a 3-4 if he cant get the job done for whatever reason we need to find someone who can.
