Looking at the players on defense, do you think we could make a switch back to the 4-3 fairly easy? I had just read where Greg Ellis said he didn't think it would be smart to go back to the 4-3, and it would set us back.

4-3

LE - Ellis
DT - Fergy, Spears?
RE - Canty, Hatcher

ROLB - Ware (on the same side as Ellis  ) Kevin B.??
MLB - Carp.
LOLB - Ayodele? Ware?

And we all know what the 3-4 would look like.

Thoughts?

I don't see why it would be a problem. Looks to me like practically everyone on that side of the ball could play in either scheme, and several of them would probably be better in a 4-3.

Ware would be wasted as a linebacker in the 4-3. He is more of a RDE in the 4-3 just like Charles Haley.

Bradie James has played the WLB in the 4-3 for Dallas already.

we can't go back. we finally have a qb(i think) and we will get a coach that will hopefully be around for a while. there's too much CHANGE in todays cowboys

Badly, if memory serves. Burnett would be a much better fit.

The problem with switching to back to the 4-3 is that the constant in almost every great 4-3 defense is a standout MLB. I've been ridiculed for suggesting that Ware man that spot but he's still the best option and when you look at the history of the NFL, the only dominant 4-3 that didn't have a star MLB was Tampa Bay who had one of the best DLs ever and were using the "new" cover 2 before teams learned how to attack it.

If you did want to go 4-3 with Ware at DE, I'd suggest Ayodele and Carpenter outside and drafting Posluzsny for the middle. James can't get it done.

No knock on Ware but I don't think he has the natural instincts for it. He's still 2 years away from being a DE.

I agree if we do go back we need to draft a true MLB.

A good 3-4 employs a hybrid attack anyhow, you need to be able to do both formations.

In my opinion, we are committed to a 3-4 for a few years atleast. We dont have 4-3 defensive tackles or defensive ends.

I don't know, if the switch were made, Ware would be the best MLB in football within two seasons. Amazing athleticism can make up for a lack of natural instincts.

I do agree that the draft is the way to go however. Dallas should be in place to pick between Posluzsny or Willis.

I would go so far to start Ware at DE... Burnett could be a starter... I didn't see Bradie James in your starting lineup as well....

Ellis
Spears
Ferguson
Ware

Burnett
James
Carpenter
