After bouncing around the league as a dependable fullback, living with the fear of being cut, Lousaka Polite has officially found job security with the Miami Dolphins.

Polite agreed Saturday to a two-year contract extension worth more than $3 million, according to a source. The new deal will pay him $3.7 million over the next three seasons, the source said. He was scheduled to make $620,000 this year.

The 27-year-old Polite is now under contract through the 2011 season.
It shouldn't be a surprise that the Dolphins would give him a home. Bill Parcells had him on and off the roster from 2004 to 2006 when he was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Parcells runs the front office of the Dolphins and signed him to a contract last season.

The 6-foot, 245-pound Polite was an undrafted player in 2004 after being a four-year starter at fullback for the University of Pittsburgh. Polite played 27 games for Parcells in Dallas and started three.

Last year, Polite played 11 games and started five. Unlike a lot of fullbacks in the league, Polite got a chance to carry the ball rather than just block. He had 23 carries for 85 yards.

Big Bill really likes Polite, I guess

$3,700,000 averages around $1.23 million per year.

2009 (Polite's fifth credited year): $1.23M - $620K (veteran minimum) = $613K extra salary
2010 (Polite's sixth credited year): $1.23M - $635K (veteran minimum) = $598K extra salary
2011 (Polite's seventh credited year): $1.23M - $775K (veteran minimum) = $458K extra salary
$1.67 million in addition to guaranteed CBA monies over three years or about $557K per season over the CBA monies.

That's not too bad for both Miami or Polite considering that the Dolphins haven't been able to find a dependable fullback after failing with two other players in '08 before Miami signed Polite last October.

Well the big Tuna always loved this kid. I give Lou props and hopefully he'll make us fellow Pittsburghers pround. It would been nice to see his brother in law make it to the pros.

He always made plays when given the opportunities but that's kinda steep.

deal about that ?

It's 3.7 millions over the next 3 season, barely 1.2 millions per year. The vet minimum is over 800k already so he's getting a less than twice the vet minimum per year.

If you think you've found your starting fullback, then locking him up for three years at that price is certainly better than letting him play out his contract and then possibly having to bid against someone for his services.

It might be a little on the high side, but it's certainly not unreasonable.

Polite was 8/8 last year in 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 situations. Those are the kind of plays that keep drives going and win games.

Not quite 800K for Polite, but close...

Pretty cheap for a starter in this league.
