Not doing any specifics but some quick notes....

-Murray, McClain, Carter, Selvie, and Hayden all leave
- A starting caliber DE and a lesser DT are signed in free agency.

Round 1- Melvin Gordon RB Wisconsin- Jerry doesn't fool around with the RB position after Murray leaves. Gordon is ready to be the #1 back from day 1 and I'm honestly not sure the running game would miss a beat

Round 2- Lorenzo Mauldin DE Louisville- High character guy who plays all out on every play. Marinelli will love to groom this kid into a pass rushing beast. Is viewed as a bit of a tweener but at 6'4 259 with 33" arms I don't think he will have a problem playing DE for us.

Round 3- Josh Shaw CB/S USC- Team captain who has position flexibility and great size/speed combo. I think he can stick at CB in zone situations, but also projects well to FS where he has experience. His versatility will be beneficial in sub packages early until he settles into a position

Round 4- Stephone Anthony LB Syracuse- Big, physical LB who has surprising movement ability. Projects best at the MIKE in the future but can also play SLB early as he learns the D.

Round 5- Jeremiah Poutasi G/T Utah- Huge specimen who played LT at Utah. Probably projects best to G, but has decent feet so RT isn't out of the question. A work in progress, but could be a big reward down the line.

I have always felt a little uneasy about Gordon. I don't know why just have. Might be that i really want Gurley if Murry is gone and i'm just trying to find a reason to dislike Gordon. Anyways great draft all around. Don't know much about Poutasi. Gave me a new player to watch tape on when i have an hour to kill. So i thank you for that.

I prefer Gurley as well, but if he's healthy I don't think he lasts until 27. If he is there at 27 he's probably a PUP list candidate. Maybe we could get by with Randle/Williams for 6 weeks, but it's not something I'd be comfortable with.

As for Gordon....the only thing I see not to like is his breakaway speed. Other than that he has great acceleration, agility, and vision. I think he will be a reliable 4.5 ypc guy who stays on the field and doesn't fumble.

Did lots of running on the outside, constantly bouncing outside. I can't say I'm sold on the player.

I view that as taking what the defense gives you.

55.0% 2082 yards 6.5 yards/attempt 15 TD 16 INT

That was Wisconsin's passing stats as a team last year. Teams constantly stacked the box with 8 and 9 guys on Gordon because of the lack of threat from the passing game. The fact that he accomplish what he did is damn impressive if you ask me.

Decent draft.

I'm not a big fan of Gordon but he'll at least be ok.

I think the running game would be at least as good with Gordon. Maybe better. He is a better pure runner than Murray and he has better instincts for the position IMO. I know not everyone agrees with me, but that's what I think.

Not Crazy about Mauldin in the second, but maybe I'm wrong on him.

Really like Shaw and Anthony (he is from Clemson, not Syracuse) but I'm afraid Anthony doesn't last that long now.

Poutasi is a good developmental guy.

Overall, I'd be more than fine with that draft. Gordon would be dynamite and the rest would upgrade several positions.

I like this draft. Would hope for Gurley at 27 also. Lorenzo Mauldin is one of my favorite prospects in the draft. I don't think he makes it to end of the 3rd, so if theu want him without a trade up or down somewhere, this is the spot to take him. I like Shaw and would love Anthony in the 4th, I'm not sure he gets out of the 2nd now though. If we came away with these picks 1-4, I would call it a pretty successful draft regardless of 5-7

Maybe your uneasiness stems from the fact that Wisconsin RBs (in spite of great college stats and careers) have yet to translate in the next level. I do believe that Gordon is more talented than previous Wisconsin RBs, but I also wonder how much of his success was the result of a good OL and the school's outstanding weight/ strength and conditioning program.
