There are some positive personnel/roster changes as well, but the largest positive deltas between performance in 2024 vs what our potential ceiling in in 2025 are these 3 staff changes:

OL Coach Riley >> Solari: Riley has been one of the most innovative and respected coaches in college football. Solari was a downgrade from Harbin and while he has a solid NFL pedigree— he is old and you have to wonder if the game has simply passed him by.

OC Adams >> McCarthy (Schotty): MM called the shots, Schotty was a placeholder. Mike’s offense was predictable and he struggled to help the offense in terms of consistency in the running game and in the RZ. Adams is a OL wiz and is bringing some youth, energy, and innovation to an offense in desperate need of a jump start. Pair him with Riley, and the scheme should be solid. The X factor is Schotty calling plays— he has been a midling OC, but he is an unknown asset in terms of HC.

Eberflus/Whitecotton >> Zimmer: While Eberflus struggled as a HC, his performance as a DC is what got him promoted. His scheme has produced, and his specialty is at one of our weakest positions: LBer. Zimmer on the other hand had to be talked out of retirement and admitted he didn’t handle the transition from Quinn well. Add in Whitecotton who has earned respect for his work in NY along the DL, and another weak position group should see some improvement under his tutelage.

Bottom line: Our coaching staff is younger, hungrier, and more relevant to today’s game. The additions of these coaches is the thing I am most positive about the 2025 Cowboys.

Long way to go to catch Philly, but these coaches are great additions IMO.

While Brian may not be the tough guy we want, his assistants are!! I love the hires, sounds good, anything sounds good at this point compared to what we've been used to. Can we blame Mike because we used a predictable offense, majority of it was from another coach, he just added some Texas coast options to it. Hope they're fully scrapping the offense and adding everything new

I'm very anxious to see how this new coaching staff performs.

McCarthy could never get a handle on the penalties and that hurt us the team was undisciplined and that needs to change with this new coaching staff those penalties just cost us every game and make things more difficult.

You can't continually start out behind the chains on offense and expect to be successful.

Such a good point on the penalties. Definitely a consistent issue that continually dogged this team

Mike was brought in for one reason: to win in the postseason.

He failed.

People will point to three 12 win seasons, but overall, there were issues he tolerated, and problems he never fixed, so IMO, his tenure here should be judged on whether or not he improved us in the key area he was brought in to address: and he didn’t

We can be hopeful about Riley and Adams
Cant agree about Eberflus. Hes a passive bend dont break 4-3 guy who plays with a small DL. The defense works in sept/oct when players are fresh but get worn down by December and playoffs. Good running teams will eat us alive by years end. The reason Eberflus is our DC is not because he is a great defensive mind but because Jerry is comfortable with him (just like why Schotty is our HC)

Man…Solari is a Legend. Dude wears the Ring.

I hear you on Eberflus. I am worried about our inability to stop the run the same as you are—- but that has been issue for many years at this point lol

I will say this about the D: our pass rush looks very good. I am hoping that Eberflus can get the unit to be scrappy, assignment sound, and opportunistic in terms of forcing some turnovers.

Can the D be ranked between 10-15 at the end of the season?

Ultimately, this team will go as far as the offense can take us— so if they are able to control TOP, improve their RZ and 3rd down efficiency, and consistently win the Special Teams phase— this D may not have as much pressure on it as it had last year.

They are still built to play with the lead and get after the passer— time will tell of this offense can hold up their end.

The inexperience of our coaching staff is not an advantage, but I do agree they have a long way to go. Too far to go. I expect this season to be embarrassing for Cowboys fans.

I agree somewhat but let's be honest, Jerry failed the team and coaching staff in 2024 coz he was too cheap to fire MM after the GB game. Def excited about the new coaching staff but as far MM, very coaches could have succeeded in the environment Jerry created last season. His time should have run out after the GB playoff loss.

As for Eberflus.......I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for his job as Colts DC because nuggets from former Bears players and the media paint an ugly picture of his head coaching tenure.

Dont forget Schottenheimer...MM had lost the team and even Coogi would have been an upgrade. Many dont like Schottenheimer, and I feel like we should have scrapped it all and cleaned house, too. That said, I like the people that BS has surrounded himself with and that is a very positive change.

Don't minimize those 12 win seasons. They are hard to get and that fact that many don't get that or respect that is one of the issues we have as fans. We all want to win SBs, but basing our assessment of a coach strictly on that, is just being a fan.

Excellent post, but do not believe that it's a long way to catch Philly.

Or is it that Mike met Jerry's MO, just enough to get us relevant .......and hope to beat the 'Bigger Boys' in the Play-offs.
We'll get a chance, this year, to see whether Mike's game plan/scheming was part of the problem and whether HE SHOULD OF DONT BETTER IN THE BIGGER GAMES......rather than scheming those annual Giants/Comms 4 wins.

Too many fancy solution mental gap cheats between events. Lazy mental habits...barking coaches right here and now!

Dont agree at all

1. Pass rush is useless without run defense. Cant trot our 280 lb DTs and 250 lb DEs and stop the run
2. Defense wins championships not offense

We are a shiny toy with no substance

Offensive line quickness to directional advantage and focus upon centering on body with center of gravity, not appearance of movements. Grunt immoveable and quick to point...win!
