How would you like to have an OLB/ILB and a DE on draft day with 1 pick? When the Cowboys picked up Kosier, they got a 2 for 1 special. A player that can play 2 positions.

Remember this name...Chris Chester. I think this guy could probably be a 3 for 1 player.

But this thread is about 1 player in particular, and I really hate to beat a dead horse, but it's time for this board to get on board.:)

Bobby Carpenter is a 3 for 1 player.

If you need him to play inside, he can dominate there. If you need him to play outside, he is dominant there. If you need him to lineup and play DE, he can get to your QB.

I did some reading on another site, (and I'll put this in my own words since I have no clue about copyrights and things of that nature) but this person was basically saying from an inside source that he thinks that Carpenter has the fastest closing burst of the big 3 (Carpenter/Lawson/Wimbley) and that he may be the best pass rusher of the big 3.

But you don't just get a pass rusher. You get a guy who had 3 INT's in 2004, so he's proven he can cover. If you need him to get into the meat of things and play some ILB, he has no problems doing this. I'm telling you now board, I was a 100% Lawson believer, but now my entire position has changed.

I love the Lawson speed and freakishly athletic gifts, but when the smoke clears, you can find pass rushing specialist all over this draft board and I'll prove it.

Darryl Tapp - 10 sacks
Chris Gocong - 23.5 sacks
Brandon Guillory - 9.5 sacks

You can get these guys to be pass rush specialist in a nickel package if you're not convinced, but when your OLB turns in 8 sacks, and an even better stat (10.5 tackles for loss**let that sink in for a moment) and he didn't play in a 3-4 allignment, missed the last game and a half, he's pretty special.

At first I was concerned about his stats in tackling, until I did further research I found his 4 year stats, and his stats last season were outstanding. And I was with most of the board in that, We love DeMarcus Ware and what he brought to the table, so we want more of that. We are concerned that we are just getting a linebacker and not a sack guy, but I assure you that Carpenter can get after your QB, and when he does get to the QB, that QB will be having nightmares while he's awake.

2002: 12 TK 0 SK 0 FF 0 INT
2003: 37 TK 4 ½ SK 2 FF 0 INT
2004: 93 TK 2 SK 0 FF 3 INT
2005: 49 TK 8 SK 0 FF 0 INT

He is a natural outside linebacker and he has the instincts to step right in RIGHT NOW, and become a star. 1-2 punch in the mouth, and pick up Guillory in the later rounds for depth. I have been into so many arguments it's not funny over Lawson/Carpenter, but after seeing Carpenters video clips, I came away stunned in how aggressive he is. When he gets after you, he reminds me of L.T. and Merriman. Someone who stalks his prey and no matter what, you're coming down.

He's big mean, and you want a guy like that on your side. He loves contact, blood, and just getting after people. He could care less about contact from a TE or a guard, he eats TEs for breakfast.

Carpenter wasn't playing against a bunch of sissy teams either, he played against elite talent. He has all of the tools you need, and actually, he turned in a better 3 cone drill time than Lawson the "freak". This means that the guy is "crazy quick".

My quick Bio -
Explosive tackler
sheds blocks
nose for the ball* (very important)
cover & tackle
great pass rusher*

3 for 1 special. Let's get Carpenter/Joseph/Watkins and get our Super Bowl tickets for 2007.

I don't think you can go wrong with Carpenter, I really don't.

At the same time I think Lawson has more upside then carpenter.

Problem with upside is you are gambling that it pans out.

Carpenter IMO is you get what you see player. If you expect him to get better by a good margin than chances are you will be let down. But if you take him for what he is you with a LITTLE upside you will be very happy for a long time.

The guy is just solid at his position and is versatile.

I can say I have been tugged one way and then the other in requards to carpenter and lawson.

Once again I just know carpenter can be a great addition but also part of me is really intrigued by Lawsons upside.

I think if I had to make the choice I would go with Carpenter, he is more of a sure thing but I would be just as happy if they took Lawson.

It was kind of like last year with Merriman and Ware. I think both will do great things.

3 for 1 guys are great...... as backups.

There are few guys who can play multiple positions that do all of them as well as guys who concentrate on a single position.

Also, BP hates having his rookies learn multiple positions - he had to with Burnett last year which had a lot to do with his slow development.

Me, I like Carp b/c he seems to be very good against the run while brining a little extra on the pass rush.

I wouldn't mind drafting Carpenter. I'm starting to suspect that Lawson wouldn't fall to us.

I'm not going to cry either way BP, I just know that we are going to have 4 different types of LBrs on the field and that's exciting.
We have Ware who gets after that QB like nobodys business.

We have James who is a blue collar worker inside, and is a mean player.
We have Ayodele who is a tackling machine with a nose for the ball.
Then we can have Carpenter who is a mean, rough, and I'll use one of my terms growing up "beat yo momma down" type of player.
This type of linebacking core will plow over teams. I would not even consider Carpenter had it not been for his ability to get after the QB.
I'm a believer now.

I agree. Carpenter may just be a hair slower getting to the QB than Lawson, but with Carpenter you also get one of the best cover LB'ers to come out of the draft in quite some time. Carpenter can do everything.

To me Lawson probably has more upside, but I don't take chances with my #1pick. I won't be dissapointed if either one is drafted by us, but I think the edge goes to Carpenter.

He would not be a backup to any of those positions. He's played the positions.
I know you all have probably watched the video clips, but there is also a downloadable version (a bit different) where they show his ability to consistantly shed blocks, and twice, he completely RAN OVER a freaking guard.

I like that downloadable clip the best.

I agree with this assessment and actually posted reasons why we should pick Carpenter in the draft thread. I was very intrigue with Lawson's freakish measurments (40 time, 10 yard time, vertical jump, etc.) but versitility is what intrigues about Carpenter and he does have similar measurements as Lawson does although not as impressive but still impressive enough.

Why is Lawson's weight headed south?

No more track, 2 hour practices, games, classes?

From 241 at combine down to 233 now?

Dude is built like a big WR and that's a bad thing.

Narrow through the shoulders and hips.

Not a SOLB by any stretch in my mind.

Weak side freak but horrendous on the strong side IMO.
