Let me just say I LOVE....LOVE the pick. I LOVED the pick of Frederick. I LOVED the pick of Smith. It's funny....I never understood the naysayers last year when they suggested Frederick was a reach, he could have been had in the 2nd round. Who cares!!!! Who cares is he is picked 10 picks to early. Who cares if Center or Guard should not be premium picks....especially IF...IF you are going to get 7 - 10 years of Pro Bowl play out of a guy. I would much rather get 7 - 10 years of Pro Bowl play out of an interior OL....than to take the risk of getting a Safety or ILB or DT whose ceiling is projected to just be solid.
Having said all of this....we have now spent 3 of our last 4 picks on OL. I am stoked about this. BUT....BUT....you should now have enough ELITE parts on the OL to have an ELITE OL. You should not have to spend premium picks on the other 2 positions to be a top 5 OL. First of all....in the salary cap era you cannot have 5 first round picks on your OL. You will never be able to keep them all if they play up to there draft status. Secondly, your coaches are not as good as you think they are or the 3 1st round picks are not playing up to their potential if you need to add 2 MORE 1st round picks to have an elite OL
So in conclusion, what I am saying is that they need to compliment these 3 guys with mid round picks, free agents etc...to complete the puzzle. We should not need more 1st or 2nd day picks to solidify the OL for the next 7 years. Of course I hope Leary pans out...and if he does...this is the kind of balance the OL would need. An undrafted guy to go along with the other premium guys. Good job Dallas!
