3 Questions that will shape our Draft Strategy

1. What position is Collins going to play? With the addition of Fleming it's easy to jump to the conclusion that Collins will kick back inside but maybe they signed him as a swing tackle. They also have a handful of pre draft visits coming in that are OT's...is that another tell Collins is moving?

2. What does the team currently think of Jaylon's health, and how do they envision his future? If they feel good about it, and they like him at MLB then we can go after WILL prospects as Lee's eventual replacement.
If they see him as the future WILL, which best suits his skill set IMO, then are they looking for MIKE prospects?

3. Does the team view Woods as a viable starting S option, or a nickle/dime DB only? If they just plan on using him as a slot CB, which is what he did a lot of last year, we've got a gaping hole at one of the safety spots.

Reading into college tackles about where Collins may end will lead you no where. Unless they are elite level tackles (have the measurables) they usually kick inside. See Collins and Martin.

Good questions cnu...But how about a bigger picture question before any others:

What specific actions do we need to take this offseason that put us in the best position to compete for a championship?

The responses to that question should dictate cap management, FA signings, the draft, and any other offseason decisions and moves.

McGlinchey and Williams are supposedly guys that will stick at OT at the next level.

Not blue chippers, but I don't see them moving inside.

The first part of question #2 is the one that I'm the most curious about.

Your Q#1&2 are central to the draft and if the draft falls the way most mocks are filling them out values will be there to draft LB and LG in those first two rounds. LB is easy to understand the need. Wrestling with picking another OL in the first round will be interesting. I dont think they'll do it.Therefor I look for LB at 19 but people have quite talking about Evans and I dont know why?

complete the oline and get defensive depth. We are only winning as a run first team with a defense. We’re not winning with a damn receiver being an important cog. If the defense stays decent we aren’t going anywhere. I should honestly never see Lewis Neal take a snap on the Dallas Cowboys. Dude is a feel good story but this is professional sports. Dude was getting blown off the ball 5 yards every snap. We’re getting Brian Price back and should draft Taven Bryan. That’s an nfl contender dline rotation

I agree. In order for this team to compete for a championship this team must stop living off the philosophy of having such a powerful offense that controls the clock to keep the defense off the field.

Put more simply- if we want to really compete deep in the playoffs, we MUST have a better defense than we have had. Even the hallowed 2014 team, our best team in 20 years, did not have a great defense, and in the end, because it didn’t have a defense, it was doomed to second round exit.

For me it's add depth to the OL, and get stronger in the middle on defense.

I actually like our pass D, and think it's on the up with our young corners, but our run defense terrifies me.

Our DTs are poor against the run, and we just lost our starting MLB to FA. Our safeties don't effect the run game that much either.

We need:
A starting Guard
A starting MIKE
A starting DT
A starting Safety

In short we’re screwed because our chances of landing all four I figure are about 1/10.

All true...BUT!

IF the team is moving Collins to LG, Woods is our future FS AND they like Jaylon at MLB...we only need a DT!

See what I did there?

- You killed our run blocking game at RT
- Picked a guy filling the wrong gaps at MIKE
- And left us without a box safety

I actually don’t mind Heath as a high safety.

I agree we want all 4 of those positions upgraded. Just because we miss on 1 or 2 of them doesn't necessarily mean we're going to suck this year. Guard, or at least Oline is probably the most critical fix we need, but that can wait until the 3rd if need be.

It would likely take a step backwards, but the OL as a whole would take a step forward. The alternative is counting on a rookie or the JAG we signed in FA.

- Picked a guy filling the wrong gaps at MIKE

Jaylon's best spot is WILL for me, but I'm just speculating the FO might see it differently as he could be healthier this season.

- And left us without a box safety

Agree somewhat here...

1. You are putting the cart in front of the horse here. The draft is dynamic and we could end up with a OG or OT available depending on how things fall. LC can play either and they won't decide for certain until the draft is over, not before.

2. Even if Smith is ready to go they only have 2 starting quality LB. Wilson and Thomas are depth and below average starters.

3. I don't see how they could know. Woods and Frazier exist and have potential at S. You should draft a S either way.
