If the Cowboys fail this year, what do you think will be the reason why?


Brian Schottenheimer isn’t ready for so much responsibility​

Being a head coach is hard. Being an offensive play-caller is also hard. Doing both at the same time? Well, it isn’t easy. Brian Schottenheimer is acing all the offseason tests, having built an impressive staff and clearly crushing the vibes check every chance he gets.

Still, he’s taking over a team that perpetually has Super Bowl aspirations and perpetually falls well short of that. He’s never been a head coach before, and hasn’t been a full-time play-caller since the 2020 season in Seattle. He’s not completely inexperienced, but this is objectively the toughest challenge Schottenheimer has faced thus far in his career.

How does he handle all these new responsibilities being thrust upon him? More importantly, how does he react when things don’t go his way, whether it’s losing a tough game or being overruled on something by his infamously meddlesome owner/general manager? Nobody knows the answers to those questions yet, not even Schottenheimer, and the growing pains could cost Dallas, even if they manage to return to the playoffs this year.

If everything goes right, this team might sneak into the playoffs as the 7 seed.

If everything goes wrong, we’re getting a top 10 draft pick.

Especially a 1st year guy...Being a 1st time HC is going to come with a learning curve, and even someone like Schottenheimer who has been around the game his whole life is undoubtedly going to fall victim of you dont know what you dont know as certain things catch him by surprise on game days. Its a tough gig.

well superbowl is out of the question for sure. couple of first year coaches who reached it had superbowl ready teams they took over. not this 7-10 team.

there are also holes in defense, namely DT, Saftey and LB. top 3 CBs coming off major injuries...some will argue we added players, and they are better than last year, but last year they were scorcing garbage, and not too hard to improve on that, they maybe hot garbage this year, but folks will claim progress.

there is a lot of bodies at RB, but will they be able to standout and help this offense..

we are still behind philly in talent. we are behind washington as well.
 
First, Blogging The Boys conducted a recent poll. According to them, the poll stated 52% of fans were encouraged by Brian Schottenheimer's performance thus far. Now, BTB writes an article basically stating Schottenheimer will not be enough to coach the team to the NFC East title. Classic <expletive> if you do <expletive> if you don't commentary, lol.

3 Reasons Cowboys won’t win NFCE:
  1. Jerry Jones and all that name implies.
  2. Brian Schottenheimer is a rookie NFL head coach. History shows there is always a learning curve.
  3. Real roster holes remain IMO - DT, RB and LB are potential weaknesses that I believe still must be improved to be a serious contender. CB also could be an issue.
The Cowboys as a total roster should be better than last year. The problem is suddenly the NFC east has two teams that appear better- the egirls and the commando boys. Hate it but just being honest.
 
Agree with everything except the schedule part of it. It does look brutal on paper, but you just never know in the NFL, especially when you're talking about an end of season stretch. Good teams turn out to be bad, bad teams turn out to be good, and some just get hit with the injury bug. With a league this competitive its often about when you play someone just as much as it is who you play.

...isnt Sean McVay HC and playcaller? I see him holding up the playcall sheet with mic around his neck.

If this team is staring down the barrel of a top ten pick again, and they start winning meaningless games again, I may actually have to hand in my fan card.
