I think it was Stephen Jones that mentioned wanting 3 starters from this draft. Don't know if he meant they would start this year or by year 2, but I would have to assume he meant this year. If that's the case. What positions and what players do you think could come in and start based on our draft positions.

Here's my guess:

1st - Mark Barron - could start at safety today
2nd - Kendall Reyes - could start at DE
3rd - Phillip Blake - could start at center

I don't know that anyone after the 3rd could come in start.

I think we keep Spencer for 1 year, so no OLB will come in and start. If Jenkins is healthy, no CB will start. I think Barron is the only safety that could start.

The draft will be interesting this year.

That is a good list.
And you are on the right track I believe.

You get 3 starters by finding quality after r1 at positions where we are soft.
I'd rather have Ben Jones than Blake in R1 but that's just my preference.

I like the S, DL, OC positional take-away.

We can get three starters in the first the rounds easy.

You know at 14 you can get a starter.

At 45 you can get a starting OG, Zeitler, Silatolu, Brooks, Still, Reyes(if there),
CB with Jenkins always hurt

at 81 you can get a WR, Center(Blake or Jones), DE(Winn and Crick) both might not be day one starters but may be mid season and play alot early. CB a #4 CB is a position that actually plays alot now adays and with Jenkins always hurt could be the #3 or #2 when needed.

Now this does not mean with the first three picks but you could have a combination of something like...

Barron
Blake
Broyles (slot AND special teams guy)

Decastro (OG or C)
Reyes, Crick, Still at DE
Fleener, Alan, Egnew, Charles (two TE Sets)

Again not talking about the first three picks but overall.

You could also throw in a Punter that could become a starter.

The most surefire way of getting there is by trading down, which I think is likely. We very well could wind up with 3, not two, picks in the top 45.

Can we stop throwing out that DeCastro will be brought in as a center, I am not sure how that started but feel it is misinformation. He is a RGuard and he is very very good but not a center.
I agree with all your other selections especially Crick, he has some JJwatt energy.

There was a reason he snapped for Luck at Luck's pro day. It was to show his versatility. Now I don't think he would play center for us unless he was the best candidate after working in camp.

Don't contradict his agenda by throwing in facts......

I would certainly hope DeCastro could line up at center, since I believe any great guard should, but I really don't know what lining up against thin air is supposed to prove one way or another.

How to get 3 starters?

14 - Cox/Brockers/Ingram
45 - Harrison Smith
82 - Ben Jones

Another way to look at it is from the perspective of the starters who are easiest to beat in camp. I think there are five good candidates, in rough order:
1) Coleman
2) Costa/Kowalski
3) Bernadeau
4) Poole
5) Spencer

It should be stated that he was a C in High School so it is not like he does not have exp at the position.

I'm not abig fan of taking "the best guard prospect" in years and immediately switching him to another position. Makes little sense to me.
