Interesting stat I read this week...
in 1998 11 players had 300 or more carries
In 2008 5 players had 300 or more carries
In 2018 1 player.. (Zeke) had 300 or more carries.
Obviously the league has changed, and I am not devaluing Zeke at all. I think he is a great weapon as he is more than just a guy who runs the ball. I don't see why Zeke cant get 250 carries and 90 catches. Who can cover him out of the backfied?

Curious how many more hit that threshold if you go from carries to total touches.

David Johnson actually
wow. and he was hurt last year

fwiw, now that the Lions ditched Theo Reddick, I think a dark horse this year for a very heavy workload will be Kerryon Johnson. Just a wild guess.

A ton of people have covered him out of the backfield. Not his strength.

A lot of Zekes carries were dumb, lazy Linehan play calls. To frequently run Zeke with 8 or more in the box was dumb. Arrogance to think our line can just magically open holes. Good teams with creative offenses, punish teams that stack the box. Our offense last season, just run Zeke. PAY THE MAN

I'd be more interested in a comparison of total team carries, then versus now.

Emmitt ran against 8-man fronts for years, and it didn't matter. Troy and Irvin made them pay dearly for it.

He was targeted 95 times as a receiver in 2018.

We invested the 4th overall pick into an RB, after having one of the best run blocking Olines and we were only 10th in the league in rushing. This despite having a mobile QB that bumps up those rushing yards.

THATS REALLY ****ING BAD

RB by committee is far more popular than just a workhorse RB in today's NFL.
What precipitated that was watching the RB1 on the bicycle to nowhere and the Rams have put themselves in that situation with a hefty price tag.

Emmit's line was worlds better than the current line despite our current line's reputation of being great.
