Just an FYI-

I own a Zune and found it this morning in a lockup on the startup screen for some reason. All types of reboots and resets didn't fix it. I did some research on a zune forum and found that it seems every 30G Zune on the planet with the clock turned on is now dead. This happened last night around midnight. Interesting how this happened on the last day of 2008...

No word on a fix as of yet. Thanks Microsoft!

The latest update is Microsoft is aware of the problem and is working on it. Also, a lot of people who had the clock turned off are still having the same issue. It's Y2K!! :D

:laugh2: Y2K.

I remember so many people taking their money out of the bank and buying extra food and bottled water over that thing.

My mother actually bought a few cases of bottled water and I laughed about it, but like she said...she can still drink it even if nothing happens.

The Zune forums now have 70 pages on this subject already this morning. It's amazing how people feel like their life is over. I do see some points being made about a lot of people had their New Year's Mix music set up for parties tonight that they now can't use.

So was it a virus or something that got into the zune tunes site (not sure what it is called but the zune version of the itune site is what I mean)?

Or was it a bad update?

I think the Zune Marketplace didn't cause it as it is only the 30G Zunes that are all bricks right now. Apparently the clock is different in the 30Gs. About 130 pages on the forum now and counting. :D

My daughter's zune is dead. She did not have the clock feature on.

The latest I heard is that everything will be back to normal after midnight PST. Some Aussies have already confirmed that theirs are now working again.

Someone posted this as legit but take it for what its worth...

"Ok, so I just got off the phone with Zune Support. I have some news as well. The error was in fact a developmental error, so a firmware UPDATE will come out to fix it. However, they said if the firmware will not work, they will be replacing EVERY ZUNE30 WITH NEW ZUNES.

"Early this morning we were alerted by our customers that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a large number of which are still actively being used). The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. The issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on."

Boo! I was hoping for that free upgrade.
