With the punks on the bus/discipline thread getting some attention I thought I would throw this out there.

I hope this piece of trash is locked up in solitary and given just enough food to survive but suffer horribly.

When officers entered the home, they found the severely malnourished child locked in a closet that reeked of feces and urine. She reportedly told officers she had not been allowed to accompany her family to breakfast because "she messes herself."

The girl told detectives who interviewed her at the hospital that her mother puts her in the closet "a lot," that she doesn't get to eat every day and that she "does not want to go back home anymore." The girl also said she gets in trouble "because she keeps peeing on herself" and her mother will "punch her on her back real hard," according to the probable cause statement.

The girl was hospitalized, and is suffering from skin diseases as well as being malnourished. Officials say she has gained just six pounds since 2006, according to hospital records.

This sickens me.

I would take this little girl home with me today.

My dog lives a better life than her.

I'm struggling to understand how she could make it to 10 years without this being noticed by somebody before this. Did she not attend school or have any other community interaction ? It's been my experience that schools are usually good sources of information on a child's development and health. There are a lot more questions than answers at this point, but for one child to be singled out in this fashion is unusual. The fact that the other two children didn't appear to talk about their sister is also raises questions about this family's fuctioning, or lack thereof.

I've been to my share of homes that have had issues with malnutrition, but it's usually the whole family that struggles. Having said that, there are a whole host of socio-economic and political issues that can explain neglect and defer to aprent's authority, and there are often delays in responding to dealing with issues like this. It does sound like the response to the report was quick, but the mother appears to have hidden the child well.

It may be that the call to authorities was anonymous, but to whoever made the call, I say thnk you. In a society that values privacy and wants to avoid conflict with others, it takes courage to do the right thing.

It's beyond my comprehension how parents, especially a mother can mistreat or abuse, or murder their own kids. I could only shake my head in disbelief, unbelievable.

I was court appointed special advocate for about 7 years and some of the stuff I saw was very disturbing. I reached a point where I could not sleep and my family was suffering as a result so I gave it up. This is more common than many may want to believe.

...and capital punishment isn't common enough.

As many terrible things like this as we've seen over the years, I cannot fathom this sort of cruelty. Especially to children.

I was haunted by the story of a little girl with cancer someone posted a few weeks ago, and grief that family and friends had over her death. Then there's this woman, who evidently thought nothing of treating her little girl in a more cruel fashion than most of us would treat a wild animal.

If this story turns out to be true, there is - in my opinion - no punishment too cruel for the mother.

I remember you talking about this before. I've been involved with this for 30+ years and I keep my personal and professional life very separate. I'm trying to envision a scenario where there is some rational explanation for this situation and I'm unable to fathom the reason why this could happen. The whole story would be interesting. We may never know the details, but I wish these children the best.

Well, at least the poor little girl is in good hands now...however, she will probably be scarred for life.

Before our son was born, I would read something like this and think 'wow.' But now all I want to do is bash that 'mother's' face in. My disgust and distain for people who abuse children has no limit. It's a good thing for that girl's biological 'parent,' and likely myself, that I wasn't one of those police officers. I don't think I would be able to contain myself...

Disgusting.

Everytime I see something like this it makes me question why people like this are even able to have, or be allowed to have (in the event that the child being neglected is an adopted child), to have children when there are so many good people out there who aren't able to have them.

So unfortunate to see that in life far to often the terrible, evil, bad people of the world some how wind up with more oppurtunities and more rights than those people who are good.

That is why I quite the advocate program. A little girl I was working with was returned to her mother against all the recommendations. A "friend" of the family was staying with them and was sexually abusing her. She was twelve at the time. She killed herself 3 months later. That was it for me.

Most of the work I did before that was related towards helping mentally challenged individuals, then I started getting those types of cases and could not deal with it.

After my kids are grown I will probably get involved again, but not until then.

I take a bow to you for having the strength to have ever dealt with that kind of stuff on a regular basis at any point and time.

I simply could not. I wouldn't be able to take it. I'd be in jail for beating the hell out of some so called parent for allowing their child to be molested, or for locking their children in a closet like in this case.

I simply couldn't deal with things like this on a regular basis.

Mom should be locked in same closet.
Then boarded up.

Bricked up.

Back a cement truck up to the closet, dump a full load and allow to dry.

Excavate the closet, transport it to a cave, line the cave entrance with dynamite and set off the explosives.

Wait a moment. Let me think.

Yeah. That's better.
