3rd and 4th down Results and the Cowboys have little to brag about

LOL...we played with a backup QB, no running game, soft defense and entire coaching staff now looking for jobs. Are you surprised???

Goes to show us, they missed Zeke the last game against Washington. Dropped those stats like a turd in a punch bowl.

This is the most over played stat of the last 5 years IMO.
4th down conversion and attempt rate are tied to how good your OL is, and your overall short yardage game mixed with some QB skill.
I've seen the same coaches lauded for this see success rate plummet when the OL wasn't as good. -- both NFL and college.
I have long cautioned analytics is uncertain and introducing new data (like teams frequently going for it and teams with lesser players going for it because a card told them to) changes those metrics.

Being aggressive is a great trait when you have a good offense.
Being aggressive when you have a poor offense is a way to lose by 30+.

How many times did we line up in the shotgun on 3rd and 1? Seems like a lot.

I feel like the QB sneak is about 75% effective on 3rd or 4th and 1.

exactly. when Rush tried chucking it down field to mingo on 3rd and 1, that was the final bad decision i needed to see from MM. back up QB to an inexperienced WR on 3rd and 1. not what i call a high % play

Have to laugh at calling third down conversion rate an over rated stat. Why don't you ask the top coaches in the game what they think of it? I remember most of the best mentioning it at one time or another.

you look at the top teams in the 3rd down conversion rate and six of the top 7 are playoff teams and the other is the Bengals which just barely missed being one.

3rd down conversion rate is tied to how good your QB is, how dominant your run game is and not anything to do with your head coach unless he calls plays.

The fact will never change that should go for it on 4th down every time if you can get it. If you cannot get it, then 95% of the time you shouldn't go for it.

Both stats are vastly overrated for judging COACHES.
